2 Different Thompson Drums ?

Recommended Posts

Hi

New members here..we are Randy and Carolyn Miller from Mid Ohio Slot Machines. Years ago, we inherited 3 Sub-Machine Guns, less the receivers. We do a fair business on Ebay and have looked into

www.Gunbroker.com. I have enclosed 10 photos of the two (2) Thompson drums. I would like to get some Info on them for listing purposes. Do not know if they both fit any Thompson ever made or if just certain models. Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.

There's a post not far below on "L" drum values; there's a link in the post to a similar one (with the "U" on the front and back cover--a WWII drum) that just sold with an asking price of $700. They fit all the earlier Model 1928 type Thompsons but not the later simpler M1 and M1A1 Thompsons (which take the box magazines).

I'm sure others will chime in.

Welcome,

Robert

Randy and Carolyn,

Drum A is a first generation made by Worcester Pressed Steel. It has many of the features of the original numbered drums, and is often referred to as the standard New York drum. It was likely produced in the 1929-30 timeframe.

Drum B is a WWII drum made by United Specialties for Auot-Ordnance. It is V4 or V5. The pics are not clear or complete enough for me to be sure which one, but practically speaking, there is little difference between the two versions.
