Stoner 63 Carrying Handle Fits On Top Feed (Bren Gun) Barrel

Recommended Posts

The last month or so a seller on Gunbroker has been selling demilled Stoner 63 parts. I won 2 of the demilled barrel carrying handles he was selling. The only part(s) demilled is the wooden handle and half the 5/16 rod inside it. The 2nd one I won still has a 8 inch piece of Stoner 63 heavy barrel in it. The Robinson M96 top feed(Bren gun) barrel is the exact same diameter as the stoner barrel. So the Stoner 63 carrying handle will fit perfect on the top feed barrel. All I need to do is make new wooden handles and weld a 2 inch piece of rod on that's inside the wood handle as well as mill a small 1/32 inch half moon slot into the top of the barrel just in front of the step down(this keeps the carrying handle bracket from turning on the barrel).

I bought 2 handles because I bought a extra top feed barrel from Robinson back when I bought my top feed kit.

So I guess more than just the buttstock from a Stoner will fit on a M96.

Now I just need a Stoner 63 bipod.

I have a spare Stoner 63 bipod that i can sell fairly cheap.

So now you are wondering why its fairly cheap, well it has a bit of corrosion and needs a bit of repair via tig on some corners. Its functional as is but not super pretty.

Here's a picture of the slot in the stoner barrel. The slot is .435 long and .150 deep. It is .6525 from the edge of the larger portion of the barrel to the center of the slot.

I bought the Stoner 63 bipod off Mongo. He's wasn't kidding about the price being cheap( I'd have paid twice what he wanted for it) bipod itself isn't bad at all. Real easy fix, already got a buddy that's going to tig weld it for me.

Thanks to Mongo for making this available to me. A+++++++++++

Here's the Stoner 63 bipod on the top feed. Thanks to Mongo for selling me this. Already to start blasting it so I can get it to the tig welder for the little bit of welding it needs. Going to repark it after the welding.

Well, after talking to the welder who wanted the rust blasted before he welded the bipod as well as saying that the weld may not park, I blasted and parked the bipod yesterday. After welding I may have to duracoat it.
