jim c 351
Yesterday was the monthly steel plate shoot at Tusco R/P clubOne of the participants was shooting 9m/m Mac 10 with a Lage upper. He was shooting reloads. After shooting a 70 rd drum and a stick mag a failure to fire occurred. Shooter pulled bolt back and noticed a round stuck in chamber. Bolt remained to the rear.Gun was set on a table while shooter contemplated his next move.A short time later there was an explosion and the shooter was hit by 2 fragments in his forearm. Skin was penetrated and a blood trail was left all the way to the club house, that a blind man could follow. NO one was touching the gun when explosion occurred. What happened???I can only think of two possibilities. A hangfire or a cook off. I think to much time passed for a hangfire. So I tend to suspect a cook off. But even this is hard to believe considering 100 rds a 9m/m being fired.Any opinions???Jim C Correction, I was just informed that shooter was using Blaser Brass, factory ammo, not reloads. Frank Iannamico
For those who are wondering... No, it wasn't me this time!
Speeddemon02
Approximately 100rd fired? Does not sound like a cook off to me. Having to pull the bolt back indicated to me to be a hang fire. Not being captain hindsight or such, but might want to have the ejection port facing down next time. i assume the injured party is alright and I also assume the gun is too? Maybe fragments of the primer could shed some light.
MACMAN
I think ATF sent out a memo about shooting Blaser ammo in a open bolt gun.
StrangeRanger
If ATF did issue such a memo it almost certainly would have been limited to Blaser aluminum cased burner ammo. This was the brass-cased Blazer which is Speer by any other name
M17ap
Correct DO NOT use aluminum Blaser ammo in open bolt subguns !!!
Got Uzi
I was the one who bandaged the shooter and looked at the gun post incident. The upper had some damage and the case was mangled. I looked for pieces of the case or primer when cleaning up the aftermath. Nothing could be found. The gun was not hot enough to cause a cook off. Im considering it a long hang fire. Bout the only thing that comes to mind and makes any kind of sense. Was there something said that wasnt calm in regards to this thread??
jim c 351
John,Yes. Bob N made an irrational rant on the subject. I responded to same and both were deleted by Roscoe.I made a copy of this, before deleted, and will mail it to you if you would like. I have a request of you. Will you start a new post and warn members about the Glock that was destroyed shooting MAXX ammo and any other guns damaged shooting this ammo. If this post is deleted before you get a chance to view it, I will automatically mail the above copy to you.ThanksJim C Edited June 5, 2019 by jim c
