Michigan Shoot

Bad news:

I wanted to do a shoot here near Brighton, MI on June 18 this year. After much discussion convincing the Livingston Conservation and Sportsmans Association (LCSA) Board that ownership of Thompsons in Michigan is legal, as long as the guns are registered and the owners ATFE licensed (they are now convinced). But, I don't feel there is enough time to get forms filled out in time for a June shoot.

 

Good news.

So I have a new date - October 15. Pumpkins beware.

Format is the same as I posted before.

 

I am having the club, LCSA sponsor the event (and the LCSA would also cover the insurance), and invite Thompson owners in (as non-members). Owners would shoot in the morning, and club members would be able to borrow (some of) the guns in the afternoon (they pay for their ammo). The whole idea is exposure of this type of shooting to the club membership, and at the same time have a competitive shoot ourselves!

 

Whats everyone think?

Sorry to here that the Brighton shoot will have to be delayed, but, that's better then no shoot at all. Just keep us updated on the schedules. I completely agree - you can allow or dis-allow anyone you want with respect to your equipment! Not a problem at all! I have nightmares of dropping my drums - they are recent - and wouldn't imagine what a novice could do to a C drum!

At least a few more out there now understand C&R MGs ARE okay for the law abiding Michigan resident to own.

The question was asked to the MIAG a few months ago, and no answer yet.

 

What caused my to ask that question was another member said they were not permitted to bring in registered guns from Indiana. Later I found out the owner does not have a federal license, these were WWII bringbacks that were amnesty registered and the owner was not a C2, C3, or C&R.

 

So by MI law (which I quoted in a previous post, I think) he is not eligible to have those guns in MI. MI law states very clearly that you cannot have full auto or silenced weapons without a federal license. He has no license, so that is why he could not bring them here.

 

On the other hand, a federally licensed owner of registered full auto guns will have no problem bringing their guns here to shoot. Especially simple if you have a C&R, just bring copies of it and the form 3 with you!

I'm O.K. with October 15th. Please keep us up to date and thanks for arranging this, I know that it can be a real pain in the butt to deal with the various parties that are involved.
