Sad News...Glenn Askew Passed Away Last Night

Recommended Posts

Phil Askew e-mailed me some very sad news that his brother Glenn passed away last night. Glenn fought leukemia a few years ago, and miraculously recovered with the help of Phil. His cancer recently returned, and we have now lost one of us.

Glenn was the one who always scored the steel shoot at the TATA Show and Shoot hosted by the Hill family each summer in Newark, Ohio. Glenn, Phil, and Jason Askew have been regular attendees for many years, and have also supported some of the NRA displays at various locations.

Glenn will be missed...a lot.

I think we should name the Steel Shoot in his honor.

Right now, we should keep the Askew family in our thoughts and prayers.

Rest In Peace, Glenn...We love you.

RIP Glen. Glen was a great guy and fun to be around. He along with Phil helped me learn how to help run the Steel Shoot at the TATA show.

Last year before turning in we shared a drink of his great scotch and I will always remember that great moment.

Phil my prayers go out to you on your lose.

God Bless

Frank

This is really sad news. He was a great guy and lots of fun at the shoots and after the shoot. I would agree that the steel plate should from now on be called the "Glenn Askew Memorial Steel Plate Competition". Rest in Peace Glenn, you will be missed. Phil, we are all thinking of you and your family.

I'd like to add my condolences to the Askew family. I enjoyed several years of Glenn's company at the shoots, smoking cigars and sipping fine Scotch. We had an especially nice get together last year that Gio mentioned. You will be missed, Glenn. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Phil.

Glenn's passing is a great loss to the Thompson community. He was well liked by everyone and always willing to help out when needed. The banter between Glenn and Phil, especially late in the evening at the Granville Inn, was priceless. They defined the word, "Brothers." May our thoughts and prayers be with the Askew family this Easter.

Guys, Thank you for all the e-mails. I don't think most of you know that Glenn was never a member of the club, but just my guest. He worked very hard with me on the steelplate. He was the one that always made the scorecard. He asked me to bring a bottle of Scotch and hope you all will join in a toast. I would be honored to have the steelplate named in his honor. I miss him so much already I can't stand it ! Thanks again, Phil.

  • 2 weeks later...

I want to thank all those who sent cards and the beautiful flower arrangement sent by The American Thompson Association. Glenn had full military honors. What a fantastic service. We only see each other maybe twice a year, but many of you have become great friends, thanks again, Phil.
