Always wonder when / how the sight wing got bent, will have to look closer next time I am at my SOT for any indication of rebuild markings.

 

Also wonder what a FOI request would turn up?

My local SOT in Indiana purchased a collection with this TSMG, a near 100% Grease gun (RIA rebuild), a very nice MP40, Sten, MP44, Maxium 08 with wheeled mount, Westinhouse 1917 with AA sights and a nice Port. Vickers.

 

I like them all (the Grease gun is gone already) but at the most could get two if got out of the HKs totally (i.e. sell the G3 for MP44, sell MP5A3 for MP40 or dump the 1919A4 side plate vs Vickers - is an interesting decission ... in particular as these are shooters so spare parts are an issue).

 

Looks like can swing the M1 and still keep most of the modern items (a M2 Carbine and SP89/PDW sear host were sold to friends as a start on the payment for the M1).

Nice gun!

 

I believe the wing was bent inward (note the bend at the radius) and then someone tried to "straighten" it with a pair of pliers or something. The metal work hardened, and now when bent back it usually (and in this case did) bend in a different place. That is why it has the wiggle in it. To see what I mean, try to bend a paper clip, abd then bend it back - it will not be straight.

 

But - so what? I would enjoy the heck out of that thing! Pick up another winged sight and fix it later - if you feel the need!

Just go back from visting the M1 and down to $1,900 plus sales tax to go, with the extra HK sear still in reserve (well it was not an extra sear until the host gun was sold off to cover part of the Thomson).

 

Looking like if work holds out etc., will have Thomson sometime early this winter.

Have exchanged e-mails with PK already (shoot with Brickyard ... who kindness is responsable for myself and the son catching Thomson flue ... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif

 

However, can always change the rear sight at a later date (one option might be a L sight also).
