Transit/Display Crate

Recommended Posts

Good Morning! I'm a member of a Texas based WWII Living History group. A couple of years ago I purchased 10 wood military crates. They are perfect for storing some of my WWII gear and equipment. This crate was a spare, so I repurposed it last week. It’s now my Thompson transit/display crate. The only thing left, is to stencil the outside with the correct period markings. It's far from museum quality, but it will serve well for as a camp display.

Hi Peter,

It was fairly simple to build. Attached is a photo of the inside compartments. Apparently way back in the day, they used orange shellac inside some crates. Orange is almost impossible to find. While researching, I discovered orange and amber are considered the same. I ended up finally finding Amber at ACE Hardware.
