Arthur Fliegenheimer
The Savage and Colt barrels are the same length: measured from end of threads to threads it's 10 1/2, with Cutts overall it's 12 1/
gijive
craig101, 10.5 inches without compensator. The compensator adds some length, but I don't know the exact length off the top of my head.
craig101
hmmmm, here is the ad for my gun that i bought... 127. Thompson Sub-Machine Gun. Model 1928 made by Savage Arms. This is the venerable Tommy Gun used by the gangsters in the movies of the 1920’s and 1930’s. The 13 and 3/4 inch barrel has a Cutts Compensator and the barrel is finned. It has a vertical pistol grip underneath it. It has a Thompson 50 round drum with it, but will also take 20 and 30 round stick mags. The serial number on the frame is S-25688. The number on the pistol grip is S-481684. There is an "EG" within a circle on both the hand grip and the left side of the frame. The butt-stock is detachable. This gun went to Britain in the early years of W.W.II before the British had their own Sten guns. It came back to America after the war as a de-wadded weapon. I re-wadded it and it is now considered a Curio and Relic Firearm, which means that in most states anyone may purchase it, after they do the federal paper work. Call me for information on how to do this. i didn't measure the barrel last night. i never thought about it. what the hell is a 13 3/4" barrel? the fins are not rounded, they have sharp edges. gijive
PhilOhio, I have had a few Savage made WWII barrels that I measured in the past. One of the NOS Savage barrels was about 1/4 inch longer than the others I had. I suppose there are slight differences in the wartime production barrels, but generally they are considered to be 10.5 inches in length. Maybe they are like carpenter's measurements of two by fours :-) Was the 13 3/4 inch barrel the one that was on the discontinued 1927A5 pistols?
