New OOW 1918 WW 1 Style BAR

Recommended Posts

Has anyone seen pics of the new OOW 1918 BAR ? This is a copy of the one Colt made that was used in the Great War. Pricey !

"Ohio Ordnance Works will be offering an authentic, licensed replica of Colt's 1918 Self Loading Rifle in 2015. Developed by John M. Browning, about 85,000 of his Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) were produced by Colt, Winchester, and the Marlin-Rockwell Corporation for use by U.S. troops during World War I. Colt also made a commercial semi-auto version for civilian sales which was designated as the Colt 1918 Self-Loading Rifle. Each of these meticulously detailed hand-built semi-auto replicas arrives in a custom carry case with two magazines and a maintenance kit. Suggested retail for this rifle is $8,799.

OOW sent out this e-mail about it yesterday...

Hey, it's Bob...

Last week we debuted our newest rifle - a semi-automatic, 1918 Colt Commercial B.A.R. - at a small conference in Arkansas.

Everyone who walked by the rifle and saw it froze in their tracks and came flitting over to check it out like moths to a flame...

One of those folks was an NRA media editor who snapped a picture and grabbed some info on the rifle. Today he sent me an email with a link to the American Rifleman Gallery for 2015's new guns...

And lo and behold, the new rifle's pictured in all its glory right there in the second row. Now, I may be a bit biased in my opinion, but this thing's gorgeous...

It's got a lot of little extra touches that true gun connoisseurs and collectors will love: Italian leather custom case, period sling with customized Colt logo, Colt nomenclature, and more...

You can check it out HERE...

More info on this in a few days.

Talk soon,

Bob

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! But didn't OOW offer a version of this model back when they first introduced the semi-auto BAR? I seem to remember that it was a bit more expensive than the 1918A-1 model that they also were selling. The difference between the two was the flash hider and the fore stock on the 1918. I am sure the finish on the two were the same and that the only difference then was the flash hider and the fore stock. I think the price difference was in the neighborhood of $250 or $500, and the list price was around $2,500 or $2,800. Seems like a long time ago! Glad to see this weapon back and OOW should be proud of its offering!

You are correct. Several years ago OOW sold a 1918 blued version and one of the members on this forum has one. He has posted several pictures of the gun on the OUTLAW forum. The WW1 version was much more expensive than the standard rifle.

Nearly a year ago, on veterans day, Bob Landies mentioned that one on the 1918 blued versions was resold out of OOW and netted $8500.00. So I guess that may have contributed to the current offering.

Here's an update that OOW sent out yesterday:

A few days ago I told you about the new semi-auto, blued 1918 Colt Commercial B.A.R. we're manufacturing...

GunsAmerica has a nice little write-up with pictures that's worth seeing.

Let me explain everything you see in the pictures (click here to see the GunsAmerica article)...

First, there's the rifle itself. It's blued, chambered in the original .30-06 caliber, and features the Rampant Colt on the top plate, as well as Colt nomenclature (we've got a licensing agreement with Colt that allows us to use it.)

Next are the accessories: you will notice 2 - 20 round B.A.R. magazines, a leather sling emblazoned with the Rampant Colt logo, a custom cleaning kit and holder highlighted in Italian leather and adorned with the Rampant Colt logo on it, there's also a manual (not pictured.)

Finally, the coup de grace of the whole package is the handsome display case for the rifle and accessories. The case is manufactured in Italy and wrapped in light brown Italian leather, with the Colt logo on the outside.

The inside of the case is lined with blue felt, and has the Colt logo embroidered on the inside cover in gold thread.

The case is custom molded to fit the B.A.R. and its accessories, has a handy, recessed storage pocket accessed by lifting up on the two gold knobs pictured. The case is secured with three combination locks.

In another email, I'll let you know about when these rifles will be available and for how much. For now, be sure to look at the GunsAmerica article here.

Talk soon,

Bob
