Is this WWII lubricating oil?

The can is full of oil. I guess I'm mostly interested in whether the can is WWII era? I see a number 44 on there, but wasn't sure if that is 1944 or just a number.

I believe that is correct as usage of the DA numbers started about then.A WW2 can would be marked with an Ordnance specification and P.O. number like this-

Ord.Dept. AXS-702 (Rev.1)


P.O.No. (28-024) 44-40702.1


The 44 indicating the fiscal year the P.O. number was issued.     FYI,  Bayway NJ is now Elizabeth NJ
