Murray--

When you say you resurrected the receiver, did you weld one back together, or just refinish it? If you did a reweld, do your laws require you to have a special license? Looks great!

The receiver, barrel and compensator was floating around on its own as a registered receiver. It was sold in an Auction here about two years ago as such. There were no other parts what so ever so I started getting bits from the Guys at the TCA show in Fairfax in August.

The last few items arrived on Friday so now it is all assembled and looking great.

Nothing is refinished. Every thing is exactly as they were originally.

It is fully functional, full auto and all and fully registered and able to be transfered to any another "C" cat collector.

Interesting fact the the Receiver is a Savage which was here in New Zealand while the Trigger frame which came from the US is also a Savage and the serial numbers are from the same month of production.

The most important thing is that we have saved another Savage 1928A1.

Murray,

Finished product looks great good job. Glad to been of some help. Also I have somthing that may go good with the new addition.

It is a Edition Of 1940 Handbook of the THONPSON SUBMACHINE GUN MODEL OF 1928 MODEL M1 . It is the one were the first few pages are light green. Condition is not the greatest there is some splitting on the spine and the area around the staples shows a lot of cracking. But the good part MURRAY is hand written across the upper left hand corner. I can get it to you if you are interested.

Also M.J. and I are looking into planning a trip to Sydney in 2005 . M.J. wants to visit her Koala it is in the Featherdale Wildlife Park. We may take you up on that offer we talked about in Fairfax.

Hi Guys,

Phil, the actuator arrived here on our remote Island last Thursday the 23rd of Sept which meant that it probably arrived this side of the planet about 20th Sept. It seemed very fast delivery knowning when you posted it.

Any way the Actuator looks great and it is a good feeling to know that we have saved another Thompson from destruction.

Once again Guys, thanks for your help. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

By the way ,

to answer some questions,

I have no idea whatsoever where the original receiver and barrel came from. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif

Kind regards

Murray. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif

Murray,

Does NZ have a law similar to the U.S.A. Freedom Of Information Act by which one can request prior ownership information from our government agency (ATFE)?

Of course, we get a response that is so redacted as to be useless but we at least can try. Also, the records for my '28 Savage only went as far back as the 1968 amnesty registration to a [name redacted] police department. So even though I know it was made in late 1941, I've no actual knowledge of its whereabouts till 1968. I'm guessing this is the case for many inquiries under the FOIA.

Yes we do have a freedom of information act but we also have a privacy Act and a Privacy Commission. Legally, it would be possible to get such information but one does not try for the same reason that one would not like ones own privacy being invaded. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ph34r.gif

There is another way however and that is to trace each transfer form via the prior owners as the prior owner has to be recorded on the "Permit to Procure" which is what you would call a transfer paper.

I will see what I can do as I know the last two owners at least.

Thanks for your interest.

PS, Interestingly, the receiver/barrel assembly was sold in a auction with a MP 40 receiver/barrel and a Stirling receiver/ barrel I seem to remember.

Cheers!
