Model 65 Odd Sight Problem

Just bought a nice 65, serial # 6637. At the range it fired 1 groups centered, but 5 inches high at 25 yards. The rear sight is all the way down such that the horizontal crossbar is touching the receiver. Which means I cant adjust this out. Any ideas what causes this or how to fix?

What ammo were you using?

It could be ammo. It could be someone messed with the front sight. Or it could be how you are aligning the front sight in the rear peep.

It might have been set for 6 o'clock hold on a 25 yard target

A taller front sight would cure it . You can figure this by math . The formula is :

Amount of change to sight / sighting length from rear of front to rear of rear = change on target / distance to target .

Make all data in inches .

example :

X / 25.25 inches = 5 / 900 ( 25 x 36 )

x = 5/900 x 25.25

x= 0.140

so it would need to be 0.140 taller to hit POA with the rear bottomed out . Depending on your needs as far as various ranges / ammo impact differences you can adjust this to allow needed sight adjustment to the rear ( example , 0.280 taller would hit 10 inches high allowing the rear to get up off the receiver by 0.140 ) .
