Mk VII
The cloth shoulder titles at this early date show it is one of the Guards Btns, probably part of 7 Guards Brigade in 3rd Infantry Divn as we can see the triangle marking on the back of the vehicles. Some of the most well-known Thompson pictures of 1940 were probably taken during this session. The bicycles, and what looks like an impressed baker's van, show the lack of mobility after Dunkirk. The Light Tank Mk.VI, looking more like a militant bath tub, was typical of what was left of the Royal Armoured Corps at this time. Notice the fellow in the foreground tries to fire, realises he's left the selector on SAFE, and has to alter it. This one must have been produced as a training film, it includes more detail than a movie theater audience would need. Bob Danvers-Walker, for Associated British Pathé, provides the voiceover as usual. A Warrant Officer from the Small Arms School Corps provides the demonstration; some of the locations appear to be Bisley, which the Small Arms School took over in 1939.
