Does standard 45 ammo work with the M6

Recommended Posts

Okay I just got some 45 ammo in and waiting for that darn tax stamp so I can get my M6 from the FFL store. Does standard 45 ammo work with this SMG. Some know it all friend of mine said that maybe gun ammo will not function properly with my M6. Please let me know.

Thanks tom

The gun was designed to use standard 230 gr. M1911 ball ammo. Not much else was in general use at the time. What does your friend suggest instead?

My friend is some stupid "know it all" Medford Oregon who thinks he knows everything about weapons. Many of these idiots out here. Thanks for all the info. I have the right ammo know my problem is that the ATF cannot find my paper work and it's been almost 4 months!!!!! The ffl /sot store did the form 4. Was that the correct form??? Please let me know.

Chill. Forms 4 is the correct one, no worries there. Transfer typically takes as long as 8 months, especially if it's your first one. It sucks but that's just the way it is

thanks so much. I want take my M6 in my back yard and enjoy it. Thanks for this information. Sure appreciated. Tom S

Tom, there is a difference in how long a From 4 transfer is expected to take and your statement that ATF can not find your paperwork. Did you or your dealer pay the $200 tax to ATF? If you have evidence that payment has been cashed then sit back and wait. If after four months ATF has no record of your paperwork and you have no record of the $200 transfer tax being paid I would have some concern. Was your Form 4 paperwork actually sent to the correct ATF address with any tracking? I would be asking the dealer for some assurances that your paperwork was sent to the correct address and the $200 payment has been processed.

ATF is advising callers to wait 90 days before checking the status of their transfer. You are past that 90 day window.

Good info there, Bridgeport. Tom, you need proof the $200 was received, and you should have signed the form 4 when you filled out the transferee questions. and of course kept a copy for your records.

Regarding the address it was sent to, I mistakenly filled out the old form in June 2020, and mailed it to Atlanta, but it was forwarded to the new BATFE location in Oregon and got the stamp March 2021, so 9 months. I think it was delayed due to my error.

Hi OP,

FWIW, I've run 3 Ingram Model 6. They were all very forgiving on ammo. I shot 230RN, 200SWC, 200RNFP (all handloads) and some Winchester 230gr RN. It seemed like they liked anything I could fit in the magazine. These were all early production guns in the 15X S/N range with the early style extractor/bolt. Used Ingram magazines rather than converted Tommy mags. I think I like the converted Tommy mags better. I can tell the front from the back!

In my limited experience they are not very ammo sensitive.

Enjoy,

Grasshopper

Hi all,

I recently purchased one of these and in the 2 times I have taken it out Ive gotten squib rounds both times within a few mags of each other.

Using standard ammo. Brass is chewed up pretty bad after I get it out.

Anyone have any ideas on where to begin diagnosing this issue?

All help greatly appreciated!

Define "squib" in your instances

Failure to fire because of light strike = probable gun problem

Failure to fire with heavy strike = primer problem

Cartridge ignites but bullet doesn't cleal the barrel = too little or no powder

What brand of ammo are you using
