Rimcrew
Has anyone ever seen this sight on an M1? It sure looks original to the gun. War-time expedient repair maybe, or using left-over 1928 parts for early M1 production to fill a parts shortage? http://www.sturmgewehr.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2019_07/IMG_20190723_101714.thumb.jpg.b0fcc26477db03ab7a17dce34f972249.jpg
jim c 351
Since the rust on the sight matches the rust in the receiver , I'd say its been on for a long time.I don't know who installed it or why, but in 77 years anything could have happened. My AO28 came with an "L" sight. It shot 5 inched left at 25 yards. Didn't cut it at plate shoots. So, I installed an adjustable sight,- shoots dead on at 25 yards. Some day people will be trying to solve the mystery about why my gun has the wrong sight.Jim C
2ndArmored
It's not a rare pairing. I saw an M1 at a Dallas gun show with a Lyman sight and a finned barrel. There was a war going on and armorers want to get weapons back into service ASAP. Woe be to the slick sleeve who admonishes his PL "Hey Sarge! That selector ain't right!" emmagee1917
I , too , have a M1 that shot several inches from POA . Pulled the front sight 1/2 way off and rotated it till it shot to POA windage wise and pressed it back . I then put together a set of clamps , prybars , pliers , screwdrivers , punches , lots of tape and a vice . Locked the rear sight to the receiver to remove any pressure to the rivets . Bent the blade down forward then rebent it back up to change the height above the receiver so that the hole was where it needed to be . Shoots to POA now .Chris
MauserMatt
Looks like that M1 sold for $18k.... Not a bad price at all in my opinion. Even with the finish wear...
