Where to Find an M1928 Butt Plate?

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry I hate to say this.

I went to Sarco when they moved Easton Pa a few years back and purchased the last 1928 Butt Plate they had.

They were hesitant to sell because it was so bad.

It was rusty and in bad shape, WW2 Surplus.

I think I got them to knock a few Dollars off too.

any differeence between an m1 thompson butt plate and a28 ???

Yes, they are not interchangeable. The M1 butt plate does not have the butt plate tang as the 1928 Model does.

The '17 Enfield buttplate is very close to the '21 - '28 Thompson buttplate. The main difference is that the angle of the tang on the Thompson is not as sharp as the 90 degree angle on the Enfield. But, in a pinch the Enfield buttplate tang can be bent to fit on a Thompson. The metal the buttplate is made of is relatively soft.

BTW, the Thompson buttplate screws are like those of the Springfield rifle, not the Enfield. And the Thompson sling swivels are like the Springfield butt swivel.

A purist will say that these parts are not interchangeable, but as a practical matter, they are. Especially if you don't care about any markings.

This is the kind of knowledge I find the most useful and much appreciated! Thank you for passing this along!

I am currently listing Thompson parts on the APEX Gun Parts web site.

I have over 100 separate listings to get priced and published to the web site.
Last night I know I listed some butt plates, I know we have both 1928 and M1 styles in the warehouse.

Please be patient as my Customer Service people can't tell you what is available or sell you anything that isn't actually shown on the web site.
