NFA amnesty
Anyone know a source for an original front sight hood? Have checked the usual suspects and having a difficult time sourcing one. Thank you,
DARIVS
Here's one for you. It's a repro, but it will do. An original sight hood is very hard to find which is understandable because they got lost often in the field. Many of the repros are indistinguishable from originals. If you HAVE to have an original, I hope you can magically tell the one from the repros, because it's sometimes impossible to tell. Best of luck. https://www.hessenantique.com/StG_44_Front_Sight_Hood_p/r19718200.htm Edited December 12, 2019 by DARIVS

New hood might need a vinegar bath! Edited December 12, 2019 by NFA amnesty

Black River Militaria CII
I have an STG45 with a sight hood that has a very small partial stamp placed off the side of the top on the curved part. The distinct letter is a "B" with a partial letter just to the right that is only half stamped due to the curve of the metal that could be an "L" possibly or the vertical left side of an "R", etc. I have had many, many MPs in the shop for reactivation, repair, refinish, brokering, etc, etc some having lost the hoods, some with repros and some with original and I always look for some sort of stamp or marking. The only mark I have seen is on a hood so far is the one Noted above. The last sight hood that I recall offered as an original from a reliable source had a price of $225 or $250.There are a variety of repros, all that fit more or less. The ones that don't fir well will pop off really easily if knocked against something sturdy. FWIW
TSMGguy
Good repros are made of spring steel, like the originals, and won't deform.

Colt Chopper
Picked one up at SAR, installed today. A little challenging to spread open, sturdy little thing.

Are there any markings on the sight hood??No markings on mine. I assume it is also a reproduction, paid $10. Does make the rifle look better IMO. I still need a sling ! Agreed the sight is a must for the sturm. Any K98 sling will work that is what the Germans used. Edited December 14, 2019 by Petroleum
