Ahhhhh. You have the collector model.

Oh dear. That was meant to be under "Johns" post.

I've never seen a manufacturer identified. They were always the Taiwan drums and ran near flawlessly. I doubt that there is more than one mfgr. They had a tough time in the beginning with their markings. This was brought about by Kahr's patent claims. I'm guessing that was around 8 years ago.

Bought 3 several years ago and all have run perfectly ever since. Made my own tool to grease them with for about $2.

Would you care to let us know how you made the greaser?

Keep Shooting is missing a good bet by not identifying these as the high quality drums from Taiwan that they've sold in the past. If there're the only place to purchase these, that fact should be stated, too.

I don't grease my drums as some others do....just my preference.

I have a five gallon Paul of homemade clp that I clean guns with. Occasionally, I'll dunk a drum and rinse the powder residue and crud out. Then I just wipe it lightly overall and more completely on the outside and run it.

Been using homemade clp in my subguns for years with very good results and very little wear....and a bucket, parts tray and brush makes guns Sooooo east to clean!

From American Gunsmith magazine, maybe 15 years ago.

2 gallons low-odor kerosene

2 gallons low-income mineral spirits

3 qts. Marvel Mystery oil

1 qt. Rislone Engine treatment

Half a can of Kroil makes it better at cutting carbon too.

I reserve a couple gallons in the mineral spirits hugs for adding to the bucket when it gets a bit low as well as a trigger sprayer to apply it inside the guns.

Stay clean!

If I remember right, we began greasing these new drums when Merle disassembled one after some use to see how they were standing up and found the spring was galling the inside of the spring housing. The drum runs fine without the additional grease, it was just a long term care process.

I too have a couple of the original fully marked 'Crosby' and 'Thompson' marked drums. They run flawless and I had mine greased at a TATA show years ago.

John: Thanks for the homemade CLP recipe, it's been awhile since I've seen it. Can't seem to find any of that "low-income mineral spirits" but I'll keep looking ! LOL
