StrangeRanger
Has anyone tried running 7.63 Mauser ammo rather than 7.62 Tokarev in a PPSh-41 or a Yugo M49/57?Does it run reliably?Did it slow the rate of fire appreciably?
Rekraps
Great question. I was doing some research on this round because a neighbor came over last week and gave me a box of gun parts, which when assembled was a fully numbers matching C96 broomhandle, 7.63 x 25. Here is what I have gathered: the rounds can be used interchangeably. Now, that being said, I personally would just use available 7.62 x 25 for my ppsh.... just in case. StrangeRanger
DO NOT shoot 7.62 Tok ammo in a Broomhandle. There is a significant pressure difference: 7.63 Mauser 2250 Bar (32,625 PSI): 7.62 Tokarev 2500 Bar (36250 PSI)The Mauser ammo is safe to use in your Shpagin but I don't know if it will cycle reliably Edited June 14, 2022 by StrangeRanger
BPinFL
I was given some 7.63 ammo with a CZ pistol which is 7.62. Have not shot it, but since you've piqued my interest, I will try it in my PPSH and report back!

BPinFL
Yes, the 7.63 ammo runs great in my PPSH 41. A bit slower ROF, and brass doesn't go as far. was able to get double taps at will.A shame the ammo is more expensive.
StrangeRanger
Excellent. I agree about ammo cost but with the supply of surplus 7.62 ammo drying up, the cost difference may lessen...or not
StrangeRanger
I tried two sticks of PPU 7.63 Mauser ammo in my Yugo M49/57. It was not appreciably slower than their 7.62 Tok ammo. Doubles were possible but singles weren't. Also I did have one failure to eject where the spent case flipped end for end but landed in the ejection port. I'm anxious to see what happens with the 9mm conversion
Roland the Thompsongunner
9mm is much slower in most cases unless you run the +p hot ammo. The empty casings dont fly near as far either. Much cheaper to shoot and easier to find ammo though
