US Navy Colt 1921/1928 overstamp for sale on GB

Recommended Posts

maybe a friend helping raise the bidding..looks darn obvious....looking at the bid history what other reason is there?

2 people doing battle $100 at a time.....poor gary----stop bidding gary and find another something isnt right with this bidding process

i notice MW feedback is selling only....funny they suddenly want a Thompson and are willing to bid 11x's at a couple hundred at a time

oddest bidding history ive ever seen

Shill bidding has been part of the auctions since the cave men. In fact, it's quite common in the foreclosure industry. See that guy in the back of the crowd at the auction?, he's from the bank to make sure they cover what's owed.

I concern myself more with fair value then who is bidding.

When i detect a shill, I will stop bidding at about 90% of the value.

There is a Gary Keim on our board who joined in December. Edit: he posted while I was typing.

Midwest Distributors is a known buyer of Thompsons whom many of us know.

I have no dog in this fight but I do know that Midwest has been known to buy a Thompson or two.

I know if Gary through another forum member. I know he wants the gun.

Mw I dont know and Ive never seen a business bid 11x

Its very unusual behavior.

To Gary. Bid once at the end of the auction. Otherwise your just running up the bidding and giving others more time to think about their bid and raise it. Your bidding against yourself most of the time

my '''thought to be shill'' experience on GB was someone who came in at 10 mins to go...out bid me....then backed out by the next morn...gun offered to me at shill price...i offered what the bid was before the shill and was turned down...further making me believe it was a shill.....brokered guns i think are often shilled as dealer doesnt care, just sell it....but real seller on sideline sees it going for under value and wants to try again...

i think shill bidding happens very often on GB...

dont know in this case, but ive never seen a business that resells guns bid more than 2x's...typically they bid once...their max bid that they feel they can make $$ on reselling...they dont bid 11x's before the auction is even getting going....

i have no explanation on why a business would bid 11x's....

dont think GB cares.....ebay is pretty smart to catch on....GB? dont think they have a clue....ive heard stories of dealers helping each other out

For what its worth, GunBroker has a 15 minute rule so the bidding extends anytime a bid is placed with 15 minutes or less remaining. Those that bid at the last second are annoying.

Ron

annoying but smart.....ive bid early on GB often...ive been winning most of my auctions until 15 mins...where i always lose by $25

when i get angry and rebid, they rebid....then it gets stupid and i end up rebidding 3x's and pay hundreds more than its worth......then the gun shows up in worse condition than the pics :)

last one a month ago showed up with 2 rusted mags (advertised as mint)...1 mag so dented it wouldnt even go into the pistol.....i got a replacement mag and all was good....but i over paid $150-200 on a $800 gun.....stupid...and i was bidding against a dealer ...hmmmmm....1 dealer buying from another dealer.....maybe i was the victim of ??????

Gosh what a nice 21/28 over stamp. I waver between the 28 Navy and the 1928 Savage guns as my favorite Thompsons of all time.

Good luck to the buyer.

depends on how much is original......90% of all thompsons seem to be mismatch....if thats a replacement barrel or a refinish it wasnt a great deal...only reasonable

i see no wear from the actuator on top and some question the barrel being correct...

if its 100% correct then yes someone saved $7k...........id think bigger players would have jumped in if it had been correct though...bargains on GB are rare

im not sure if this proves MW is the true bidder or not.....very strange to have only 2 people bidding.....one of them a business...

Im assuming you guys are thinking MW is Midwest Tactical as in Frank whatever his name is. Not the same MW.

This gun wont be listed on Franks guns.

Im curious where you get the $7k too cheap figure. Why do you assume that at the selling price it must be incorrect and if correct this is a $45k gun?

What indications make people question the barrel on this one and what is the basis behind 90% of Thompsons being mismatched. Does that 90% apply to Colts as well? I assume this is based on the small sampling of guns viewed on Gunbroker over the years?

Agreed on the 90% ain't Colts.

We have an Arsenal rebuilt Colt overstamp US Model of 1928A1. Lower is different SN than the upper. Have not seen any 1921/28 ones that are mismatched.

Not to say that there may not be any; not in my dealings over the past 20 years...
