Fencer
Went to the Indy 1500 gunshow today. Been a member of the board for a couple years now. Ordered a 27a1 and it's at PK's now. Looking at all the pictures of what PK does to the guns is bad enough.. But, I have never held a thompson... So, my friend and I are browsing the isles, and there is a 1927A1 on a hard case. Point it out to her, explaining that I have one of those that I have never even seen sitting out in Colorado. Looked at it a minute, and thought, what they hell, why not hold it. Asked if I could look it over, and that was when I screwed up. Yes, I actually held it. I swear I heard a trumpet or two sound off from the far corners of the hall. A light seemed to come down and focus on me and a big ole shit eating grin appeared. Now this is a 27A1, not a FA.. god only knows what would have happened to me if I had picked up a real 1928a1. I think I have been infected. Somebody at the BATF needs to hustle that SBR request!! Came home and held one of my Garand's but that did not help. Told my wife what happened and was told "its a long drive to Colorado!" http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif Lotta help that was. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/dry.gif Its gonna be a long, long time till that gun gets here from PK's. On a side note, the wood was really nice on this gun. Both the front grip and pistol grip were nicely contoured. Sigh.
full auto 45
You should have went over to Ohio Ordnances' table and ask one of the boys if you could see the NAC Thompson. They only want $15,500 for it! Ken, Will you be there tomorrow? I was there today. Wish I had known you were there. I'll be there at noon tomorrow. Zamm
Fencer, Yes, you have been biten by the Generals bug! Man, I can't even imagine holding a FA Thompson, but when you get yours from PK, it's sooooo nice and close. Man, mines been back for a week and a half and I keep running downstairs opening up the case, putting the stock on, looking at it, Man, it's quite an illness. I believe the correct term is Obssesion! Well, I know what your in store for, it's worth the wait! Cheers, Zamm
M1Brian
I know exactly what you mean. My WH M1 semi (my favorite gun.) is also enjoying the moutain air in Colorado with PK. After seeing the pictures of Zamm's gun I wasn't the same for days. Hell I'm still recovering. This Thompsonitis gets worse the longer you own one. I've been to the safe several times and have found out that holding the Colt AR's does nothing, probablly because of the plastic stock. Next you try the M14, Garand then the M1carbine and work your way to the 1927A1. When that's in your hand you get a little relief but then you remember as soon as your WH M1 is done your A1 has to go to CO. too. I Imagine 6 to 8 months from now it will all be over and I will have 2 WH's I will be afraid to shoot because they look so good and I will have to go out and buy a shooter. must
Don't be afaid to shoot it because it is to nice looking! I had PK overhaul my WHM1 (FA) & it runs like a champ now. I have alot of spare parts to take care of it & if it gets dirty I clean it up & fix it. I also do the same thing to my 641/2 mustang that I've been driving for 23 years to work etc. Sure is fun!!!!! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Sgt
I know exactly what you guys are talking about. Even though I now have the FA, there is still a real pleasure about dressing up the 1927-al, putting on the SBR, and having a PK make over. I'll have to get mine to him this summer. I'll probably get Deer Slayer to help me with a fancy 28 stock.
Grey Crow
I agree, Sgt., I'd love to get a set of #1 grade A wood. Deerslayer does a fantastic job on them. About the only thing left to do would be mill my frame and add a Lyman site. From there the next step would be to take the full plunge into a FA. Sure I'd love a Colt, but I'd settle for a AO 28. LOL, I need a new profession. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif My 27 is vacationing in CO as well, and the list of mods. keeps getting longer. TSMG28
My wife has a name for the disease that is related to Thompsonitis. She calls it the Baribie Doll syndrome. I hate the analogy, but I have to admit that there is a correlation. Since buying my 1928A1, I have been acquiring spare parts, mags, web gear, manuals and just about anything remotely related to Thompsons. True Thompsonitis - owning, holding and shooting the gun - is definitely incureable, thank heavens! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif Roger

SecondAmend
To paraphrase the Patek Phillipe ad, You never own a Thompson, you just hold it for the next generation.
21 smoker
Man, with all those Thompsons at PKs,including my WH28...there are more tmsgs under one roof than at the NRA exhibit!
M1Brian
It's all a vast democratic conspiracy, John Kerry is out in CO disquised as PK collecting all our guns from the UPS man. And he is personaly destroying anything not a west hurley or a Kahr. He figures with PK in govt. reeducation program there will be no one to make the WH's and Kahr's run and he can say he solved the gun problem. PK.
Yeah, T-man and I have this thing going; we are going to retire on the sale of the parts. There is a scourge of guns- take them away from Hillary, Teddy, Barbara and Chucky’s body guards and the scourge will be lessened.
LSU Tiger
http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif The same thing happened to me. I got an M42 Paratrooper's jumpsuit, then boots, M-1C helmet, then... You get the picture. Now I could invade Normandy! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif It's still growing.
