Cleaning magazines.

Recommended Posts

Spent most of yesterday cleaning 29 magazines for the MP40. I took them apart and ran a blow torch through them. I then pushed a rag through them and it cleaned all the old dirt and cosmoline out in a flash. I then oiled all parts and put in new Wolff springs. The old springs were 75 years old and compressed about 2 inches. They came out beautiful and it was fun.

That sounds like a nice rainy day project. Were they magazines you have used at the range before??

I did use 7 of them but mixed them back in the pile. They all worked great but some that i came across were thick with the old cosmoline grease. The blow torch made life very simple and easy.

I love the old character, wear and tear but want them to function like they do now.

Just finished my last and 40th magazine. These are a sample of the old WW2 springs and the new Wolff springs. I also burned out and wiped away every last bit of the old cosmoline grease. I took my time and feel very comfortable the mags could not be better.
