Hitchhiker picked up by Clyde Barrow

Recommended Posts

My wife's side of the family swears this is a true story.

My father in law's family lived in Gainesville, Texas. It is within a few miles of the OK border, north of DFW Metroplex. They were a hardworking family, struggling to make it at the time.

A common practice in the 1920s and 1930s was hitch-hiking. My father in laws oldest brother Leroy was hitching south from Gainesville to Denton. Two guys stopped and picked him up, he got in the back seat.

After a few minutes Leroy noticed the car had several guns under a blanket and realized the driver was Clyde Barrow. Apparently Mr. Barrow and the other passenger were cordial and let him off in Denton as requested.

Have fun,

RFA

Any idea of the time frame ? Clyde probably told Leroy, not to worry about the guns in the back seat in the blanket, "we were just out duck hunting with 1918 BARs. " Clyde was rarely without Bonnie, that's why the time frame question.
