Original Colt and Ww2 production grip mount bars are all 1/2" 3/4" is the new production size. I'm not sure why they decided to switch. Maybe slightly stronger?

I think this implemented when Kahr Arms took over,I have an early West Hurley Gun and it had the 1/2 Grip Mount.

During WW2 a bracket was designed that went around the Horizontal Forgrip and Barrel because the Grip would pull away when slung over shoulder and other Combat situations.

Kahr probably looked at it from a Commercial perspective being at the time the Semi Auto with the longer Barrels weighed more that the WW2 versions.

Might be stronger, but I've always presumed they make the commercial grip hangers like that because it requires less machining.

The bar stock starts out the same width, but they don't have to mill it down after the tongue.
