USMC0802
On 16 January 1935 four men attempted to rob the bank of Leonore, just south of LaSalle, Illinois. A local sheriff and two civilians along with one robber were killed and several other people wounded in the running gun fight in which a posse of dozens of civilians and law enforcement officers from several departments participated. Just over one month later, LaSalle PD took delivery of 10 .38 Super Government Models. Seems that as a result of this fight, it was suddenly considered a priority to update their weapons to counter the "motor bandit" threat with the latest and greatest offering from Colt's.
USMC0802
LaSalle PD also apparently had a pair of 1921A Thompsons, though I don't know when they took delivery. At least one Thompson belonging to a lawman from one of the agencies involved in the pursuit of the robbers was used in the shooting.

USMC0802
I like imagining the dialogue at the city council meeting following the gun battle. I wonder if it was a tough sell to get the authorities to approve such a purchase?

USMC0802
Hi Jim, You're correct - I shared this one over there some time ago. Thought perhaps some of the folks who hang out here would enjoy it too. Tyler
