1919 Colt BAR recoil spring?

Recommended Posts

Ok Jim, here's what I've got:

Existing (weak) spring: 11.5 in. long, .422 dia. coils and thickness of wire .045. Total of 60 coils

Then I found another one from a Colt buffer in the bottom of the parts box that I didn't remember I had:

13" long, .428 dia. and .045 wire thickness (66 coils) This spring is much stronger than the weak one and I'm going to try using it until a suitable replacement is found.

Only other thing I had close was the outer recoil spring for an FAL : .410 dia. and .042 wire with plenty of length.

Now that I know what we're basically looking for, I'll hunt the greasy parts bins at the SARS show and see what I can find.

Sorry Jim, I got started on other projects and never circled back to it. In reviewing my notes, it appears an FAL spring would be the most available and easiest starting point. As I recall, they are long as-is compared to the 1919 BAR spring.
