Picked Up Combat Today

Recommended Posts

I looked on Evilbay today and found that they had finally put my favorite WWII show on DVD .. I bought the first two seasons of COMBAT!

Two 16 episode 4 packs ...I'll be busy watching Sgt Saunders shoot that 1928A1

Check out that crazy ejection port..... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif

I've seen that gun pictured somewhere else, can't remember where or when (again with my song titles). OK, Respected Colt21a, or GIJive, tell us where that prop came from!

Ron,

That's the wooden prop gun that quite a few people mistakenly (in my opinion anyway) think Saunders carried in the series. I have only seen that gun in very early publicuty stills from the series and believe he carried a real blank firing 1928A1 in the screen shots. Some scenes, where he doesn't fire the gun, have a 1928A1 with a correct compensator and the shooting scenes usually show the Thompson with the cast one-piece compensator with the big open front end.

Several stills from Combat clearly show the flattened fins at the front end of the barrel, typical of the Stembridge guns from that period.

Just took a quick look at "Amazon.com" and they list it for $34 each season, did you do better on ebay? Was that 16 episodes per season or 4 packs of 16 episodes each for a total of 64 or.... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif

I got them on the "Buy it Now" for 31.99 each plus shipping. They have 4 discs in each collection with 4 episodes on each for a total of 16. That makes 32 episodes. The seasons were longer then.. So these two that I bought cover the complete first season....There were 152 episodes in all.

Other than the Germans using Reisings as MP40s. Did anyone else notice that the location they filmed in during the last seasons was the same lake area that Andy took Opie fishing at in the "Andy Griffith Show" http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

I thought that scenery looked familiar when I was watching one of the combat shows the other day. Wouldn't that be a hoot, Aunt Bee comes across some Germans in the woods?

You know, even as a kid, I allways wondered why the Germans

would come running out of a house, one by one, just to be shot as they left the door....

Have to watch them again and see if it was just me.

There is alot of info on Combat here : http://www.jodavidsmeyer.com/combat/main.html

I bought their Combat Companion and it is great. They mention bloopers for each episode, ie. the Reising made up to look like an MP40 or in the background of an episode is the California Freeway with cars driving by as they were suppose to be in the French countryside. Also Vic Morrow's right index finger was too short (birth defect), so he fired the Thompson using his middle finger.

If you are a fan of the series check it out.
