Northridge "new" Mags

Recommended Posts

Just received a five pack of new 30 round mags from Northridge that were still sealed in the wax wrap. All are unused in appearence and are in great condition. Three are Seymore, one AO Bridgeport and one SWCO. The blue on the AO is beautiful and would be a nice display piece. My question is about the SWCO mag, it is in the same great condition as the others with one odd thing about it. It appears to be in almost a battleship grey color parkerizing. It has no markings on it anywhere that evidence use of any kind. Has anyone else seen this finish on a SWCO mag or for that matter any others? Thanks for any insight.

Motorcar, yes, I have seen these grey 30 rd. WWII mags before. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif I bought a couple from someone in North Carolina a few years ago. I was a little disappointed when first observing them (bought them mail order), since they did not match the typical blued finish of a TSMG, or a semi-auto version of the TSMG. I sold one and kept the other, since it was already milled-out for the semi-auto Thompson. One can only own the semi-auto version of the Thompson in New Yorkistan!! (I think everyone should own a few Savages, as I mentioned to Arthur in a recent post). http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif My mag. is the U.S.-30 Cartridge-Cal.45 C Co. version. I believe that these mags may have been "greyed" to match the finish on some TSMG's used in WWII (which may have been parkerized or "greyed"). http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif This is only speculation on my part, however. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif Regards, Walter

Motorcar,

Curious how long it took to get your mags from Northridge, Ordered some the other day and they said 3 weeks before they would ship. Just wondering if that's normal. Not that I'm in a hurry, I'm one of the 'pending' crowd soaking up information like a virtual sponge in the meantime.

Walter, thanks for the info! I kinda think it is a neat variation on the parked and blue ones. Also neaded a SWCO to complete the colection. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif

Marks, got mine in three days for $15 shipping/ handling charge. I am REAL happy with the quality they sent, hope yours will be as nice. Wish I was in the "pending" crowd! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif

I bought some "new" mags from Northridge several months ago, and they came in the same foil & plastic wrapping. However, they weren't really new -- they were nice used mags that had been wrapped for long-term storage several years ago. My supposition about your parked mag is that it was refinished and joined the others for long-term storage several decades ago.

I thought you guys might enjoy this e-mail exchange I had with Sportsman Guide. I bought 2 XX mags advertised as "good-to-excellent" and "fully funtional" for $16.47 each. (Too good to be true?)

I realize that physical appearance is a subjective thing, but to me they looked too beat up to be called "good to excellent." I unwrapped one mag, and it was far from "fully functional" -- follower was bent and wouldn't work. No bargain.

I returned them asked and for either a refund or an exchange -- just send me two mags that matched the description in the ad. Customer service wrote back promptly and said they couldn't send better mags because they all looked like mine. Then I went to their website and discovered their ad still described the mags as "good to excellent" and "fully functional." I wrote and asked them why they hadn't changed their ad. Here's the response:

Dear Don,

Thank you for your e-mail.

I said that all of the magazines looked like yours, but did not say they did not function like yours did. You received an oddball that didn't function. The ones in our bin are all functional.

We have something called a Special Pick where we have someone from our Products Department go down to the warehouse and hand pick the items being sent out to the customers. Unfortunately we had so many people taking advantage of that service that we had to put a charge on it in order to have Special Picks done. That charge is $25.00 per item.

Unfortunately with much of the Military merchandise that we carry, we will only see a sample that is brought in to us and the copy from the vendor. Many times our catalogs are already printed before the merchandise arrives in our warehouse.

As I said I would very much like to be able to give you exactly what was in the catalog, but I just cannot do so without the $25.00 fee.

Any other questions or comments, please feel free to contact us.

Enjoy the Outdoors!

Just got my mags that I ordered from Northridge. All I can say is WOW!!, they look "like new", finally a company that is true to their word. I can't wait until I can save up enough to order another 5 mags. It did take some fitting for the mag catch but I got it working. Talk to ya'll later. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

That's the way I felt about mine. With all of the junk out there it is nice to find someone that actually sells what he says. Even if it costs a little extra. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif
