OK before everyone thinks I've lost my mind, I want to stress that I DO NOT want to weld a pic rail to the top of the gun or anything else that would be permeate and hurt the guns value.  Anyone have any ideas for a rigid mount that could be installed and then taken back off so there wouldn't be any modifications to the receiver itself?

Nothing that looks nice , but I see two options . One is a wrap around mount that bolts to the ( replaceable spare ) cocking handle housing ( really more for a M3A1 ) . The 2nd would be a rail mounted on a tube welded to the barrel nut of a spare barrel , kind of like a free float AR handguard set up or a M3 suppressor .

John,

Maybe you could find a good machinist who could make a clamp around the barrel and a rail on top.

If need be I'll make up a blue print and give it to you this Sunday.

I had someone contact me off board about an idea...a clamping system similar to what was used on the S&W 76.  Use the rear sight as a reference point and have it lock onto the sides of the receiver.

I think it is a great idea. Don't have my M3 in hand yet, will be a few more months, but had given some thought to a red dot myself.

Please let us know how the project goes.

Have you seen this one?

I know you don't want to weld anything to the receiver, but thought it was interesting.

It came from this article.

I've seen the video of the Philippines modified one firing. Pretty sweet. What did our special forces use to mount a red dot on a M3? Weld?

I have yet to see any of our guys modify them for use.

I should be wrapping up the prototype this afternoon or tomorrow.  I will post pictures when I am done.

Well I'm not sure if they were definitely modified, or to what extent, but I remember seeing a video with Larry Vickers, and he said they(he) did use the M3 in special ops.

Looking forward to pictures!

OK, Got Uzi, I believe I have figured you out. Congrats on a second place finish at Knob Creek!   And your optic appeared to work well on the M3.

How do you get 8 magazines in the pouch ?????????????????? I can get 7 ,but can not get 8. I looked at your picture  and followed the mag inserting and still can't get 8 . I can get four across the bottom and three across thr top but thats it.  Can you help? I'm pretty sure the pouch's are the same size.  Thanks Jeff

The pic rail is laying on the grip at the time of fitting. It isn't attached.

MP5 and Sterling SMG mags are the others sitting there.

Jeff-it takes some practice. You have to put the last mag in the carrier by inserting it between two mags already in it.

Interesting mount, I've been thinking about mounting a red dot on mine without damaging the tube for a few years now. So, are you still planning on producing a few and selling them anytime soon?
