Strange Movie Thompson

Recommended Posts

Stills from the 1977 movie "Rabid", made in Canada.

Part M1928, part M1 and a strange magazine.

The first picture is a close up.

In the second you can see the elongated compensator.

Looks like the armorers for the film modified a 12-round Reising magazine with the spine of a Thompson magazine.

Maybe they aren't as available in Canada, or the armorers didn't know where to look.

COMBAT! Used Reisings, 2 of them, mocked up like MP40s. They ended up at Curtis Earl's place.

Movie & TV armorers have to be creative when they can't get multiples (or even 1 of) the genuine article. Very interesting specimens, thanks for poisting. I happen to be in Canada this weekend working; maybe I'll see the prop in a hobby shop!

If you look closely, it appears to me that the upper, lower and the rear sight are all one piece, and you can see the wood of the pistol grip is not extending up past the actors hand...my guess is the whole thing is made in house.

Remember never to point a Thompson at your co workers as shown in the second picture :)
