The Man Who Shot Dillinger

There was always some speculation on this, loved the guy that played Winstead in Public Enemies. ( see him in Avatar too)

Sandy,

Wasn't JD killed by a bullet to the back of his head. That doesn't sound like a heroic task

in my opinion, just opportunistic .

Darryl,

It was heroic to go up against a person with JHD,s reputation. Dillinger made the decision to run rather than turn and shoot it out. No one, including JHD, knew what he would do next. One way or the other, JHD was going down.

What about Clarence Hurt???

I believe it's mostly agreed on, that Winstead fired the fatal shot which entered his neck and came out under his right eye- the Fatal shot. The other wounds were not fatal shots, so I've heard.

Like Clyde & Bonnie, Baby Face Nelson and the rest, Dillinger had to be stopped.

I've heard the story John wasn't shot, "Dillinger dead or Alive" by J. Robert Nash, tell that story, an old interesting book.

However, I have a photo of the police taking fingerprints on John's body , just after it arrived at Cook County morgue, or maybe even before. It on a gurney still fully clothed.

I always thought it'd be great if a 93 year old John Dillinger ( with proof ) showed up in a Indiana nursing home...

Mr. Dillinger what was the Little Bo battle like ? " WHAT ? " Mr. Dillinger how long did it take you at Crown Point ? " WHAT ? " Mr. Dillinger what was Billie Frechette like ? " WHO ? "

  • 4 weeks later...

Larry Wack's web page has a photo of Winstead in 1970, under FBI agents 1930s.
