Scope for my E4?

Recommended Posts

Kind of depends on what you want to shoot it at. My personal experience with optics on belt fed guns is two fold - tripod and hand held. for handheld, low power, HOLO type sights work well. think Trijicon. They need to be rugged. cheap optics do not last under FA vibration. For tripod mounted, you can get actual glass, optics and maybe a little more magnification. I like a Trijicon 4x or something similar. QD mounts. the optics are hard to use in CQB / MOUT.

Elcan Specter DR. With a quick flip of a lever you go from 1.5X to 6X. Beautiful optics and rugged. Only drawback is the weight and the price, but for an M60 owner neither should be a problem, LOL.

Looking those up right now and thanks guys.

Wow $3000 but i'm buying it as soon as i talk myself into paying for it. Watched the 17 minute video and have to have it. Going with the 5.56 version and someday will get the 7.62. This was i can use it on my M-16's too.

Thanks for the lead. I'm excited about the Elcan Spectre DR

BTW i also have 2 of the ACOGs already with the added CQB sights.

I have the 1-4x version on my '16 and am nerving myself up to buy the 1.5-6x for the Pig. Christmas can get very expensive!

No kidding. I actually decided to buy a brand new, fluted commando heavy barrel yesterday for $3500. Looked everywhere, since I thought that might be a little high, and none to be found. Today I try and talk myself into the scope.

I have two of those fluted short barrel setting up in the shop somewhere - plus a few E4 and probably half a dozen E1 barrels. I had stripped E1 barrels from a ANG unit that I sold for $50 ea. I built up a couple w/out bipods for use in the M60D guns . Here a shot of an older Short fluted barrel. Sounds like I should find the barrels and put them in the vault.

Nice set up. I like that. I have been buying E1 barrels for $1000 when I see them. New of course. I debated this E4 barrel for weeks and finally pulled the trigger.

Well I sure hope you enjoy your Christmas gift to yourself! Obviously you have been very good this year.

Oh, yeah- your new barrel has the revised gas system on it so you don't need the safety wire.

Thank you for answering my question about that gas wire. Makes me feel much better after spending all that money.

It is a very cool barrel. I like the shorties - The only thing about M60s - you never know what will vibrate off. Well actually you do. The M60s are the reason I bought a good set of safety wire pliers. We used to bring them into the field when doing training OPS, because you never new when stuff would loosen up. In ever let them out of my sight though, since everyone thinks they are an armorer. I have a video of me taken by a Navy videoprapher , where I get a jam in the M60 I am using - I go to cover, whip out my Multi tool and clear the jam by pulling the barrel and clearing the case and am back up firing in 26 sec. .... I timed it when I saw the video. It is always interesting to see stuff in video you do not notice otherwise.

Very cool story and advice. Thanks for sharing. I'm retired now so doing guns hours every day while my girl goes to work. Interested in learning anything and everything. Watching at least an hour of you tube everyday on taking apart and putting back together. I'm getting very good at most of my guns and I am searching the internet and buying spare parts. Some people say I am out of control and I tell them I am just prepared.
