Value of WH 1928

hello I have a US model 28 that is from the West Hurley NY plant. I am looking to see if anybody could give me some advice about where to figure out home much it is worth.

David Spiwak has a listing for a M1 West Hurley for $18045.00 He claims to pay 90% of retail value so a M1 would be $1625? The machine gun price guide has all West Hurley models at a average price of 20K

IIRC one just sold on a major auction for around $13K including BP?

 

There were some out here on GB well under $20K - may be gone now but I keep that auction price in mind.

 

It all depends on what shape it is in, what repairs/servicing has been done to it, and how fast you want to part with it.

As said above price is all on condition. If you post pictures here (lots to include internals and external) folks will give you their two cents on the condition of it. you can also look at Morphy’s auctions and the other places but there’s usually a buyers premium that people.

Ruben at Dealer NFA has what you should consider the high end of the prices so use that as a cap and not the average.

A WAG on price could be 15-20k but without knowing more about your 28 it’s very hard to say.

I bought a 1928 WH 11 months ago for $15k from an individual. Nice gun that came with 40 magazines, many new, an L drum, and genuine WWII paratroopers drop bag.

Welcome to the Thompson forum. cbmott hit the nail on the head - somewhere between $15,000 and $20,000. A lot depends on condition and any accessories that are included. Is it an early or a late West Hurley. Does it have an original Lyman rear sight? How about other important GI parts, such as the actuator and grip mount. I would assume it is on a Form 4. Pictures would definitely help with any estimate of value. Where you live and any references you can provide a prospective buyer is also important. Ruben's prices are at the top of the market but he has a good reputation, is a brick and motor dealer, stands behind his products and has Dan Block, a forum member, go through and fix any issues, and test fire all Thompson guns. How fast you want to sell is also a factor.

WH M1 production was only about 300 guns, IIRC, so serial production was quite small.

 

Opinion as to what something is worth from people not in the market don't have much value. Recent sales numbers offer a better picture.

 

The more people that see an item offered for sale, and the better the pics and description are, the better you'll do.

For almost everything there are three possible monetary values: selling price, buying price, and insurance value. All are generally different
