Recommended Posts

York $7,195

DLO $7,395

i have a gun coming from NFA Sales right now and he was nice to deal with.....also bought a Beretta 92s from JG sales and it was shipped in a day....

im trying to educate myself on these 2 guns....the York and DLO seem to be the most common...the York always seems to have large welds, while the DLO looks more professional...price wise they seem to sell similar....

the DLO listed appears to have something scribed all over one side....which because im fussy w/ appearance id have trouble accepting......the york comes with a few mags and a loader...looks nice.....except for the welds....

checked GB and Sten's dont come up on their very often...one sold for $8,000 a while back...didnt look as nice as either of these.......one was on Sturm last week for $5,000 and sold immediately...didnt see what it looked like...my guess is not pretty, but at that price id have no issue with refinishing

i have a gun sent to John Andrewski, I believe he is known as being a Sten guy....so ill also ask him his opinions...he may also know of some for sale

i did write J&G to ask if they were open to offers....the NFA sales one is a consignment and its from the same consignor i bought my M6 from.....so if it sits for a couple of months he will most likely be willing to deal like he did on my M6....im not in a hurry...still have to get an ok from the mrs

i see Spiwak has mags NOS for $40 each....going rate for used seems to be $30...so not a big deal

what is the difference between York and DLO?

an ugly one i found...but appears to be original english with holes drilled into it....im sure repairable, but then it wont be original after a refinish

Thev JG York sten looks like it was cut down or something. The tube looks shorter then normal. The trigger group cover also shortened.

That's the first thing I noticed. The receiver is definitely shorter than normal on the York.

Shot a Sterling MK4 tonight....local guy makes them (has old registered tubes).....im hooked....let the wife shoot it twice to get her approval....dont know if i got her approval, but its weight and flat shooting im sure did just that.....

no Sten for me....going all out....after shooting 5 other full autos the Sterling mk4 has no comparison....0 kick....i was able to just hold the trigger down and mow horizontally the targets down....weight is unlike anything i own....balance flawless......and its a STORMTROOPER GUN!! from Star Wars....beat that!

curious how it shoots suppressed?.....the seller makes threaded barrels for it....550 rpm stock...wonder what a suppressor does with that....im sure throws it off balance

now just a matter of having a good month or 2 at business this Spring and its mine(along with a 12 month form 4 wait)

I was looking at that MkIII a few weeks ago. Man, with the bulge in the barrel and replacing one is not easy. Would need to find a body that can replace it properly. I would think that there are not too many Sten armourers out there. Lots of other issues are inherent in that model. Also, I think that $6,500 is a bit high for the current condition.

There are the mystery letters and numbers etched on the mag well near what might be the SN. I do see the manufacturer's markings.

Anyone own a MkIII?

The Mk3 looks original and unmessed with to me. The extra markings look like a date scribed into the paint. Replacing the barrel is no problem, you see people stating they are held in with drive rivets, they aren't, they are run of the mill mild steel rivets and they aid in the positioning of the front bushing while it is silver soldered in place.

That MK3 is a decent deal on a C&R gun. Barrel replacement while not drop in is not hard. Transferable C&R STENS are not that common. I have had several DLO guns and all were decent quality - sold a Chinese contract gun MKII on a DLO tube ( although I will be honest - it looked to me like original tube, and super light DLO stamping on the trigger cover) and registered under the original SN on the mag well. . Sold it last fall for $6900, and probably did not ask enough. Oh - and ALWAYS measure the bore and chamber.

Funny story time - When I was a lot younger, and just into MGs as a dealer, I got in a nice C&R MKII. took it out to test fire and - WOW- muzzle blast, ejection port blast and kicked. Could not hit shit with it.... Took it in to clean and happened to look at the bore as we were cleaning it. Hmmm. Looked "small". Measured it, and damn if there was not a 7.62 Tok barrel in the gun. No damage to the gun, all the 9mm bullets went out the barrel, an I learned a valuable lesson. Anytime I get a gun in I check the caliber even today.

None of the prices seems great except for the out of date one.

The MK3 is rarer than the MK2 from what I have seen, and C&R Stens are rare. It's also cheaper than the tube guns. I would get the C&R one personally, or wait for a properly priced C&R MKII.

How much is Rick getting these days for his sterling builds? I know he had to shell out a bunch for the last bunch of tubes and that was many moons ago. I think the last ad I saw Doug place was 5 or 5500 just for a tube. For a while it was all the rage and a lot of these were trading hands.

im paying $15,500 for the whole pkg with wood case with extra's....he says the next batch will be $18,500

from the small bit of into ive been able to find a typical used Mk4 goes for $13,000 +-......but his isnt the same as a Mk4, its a bit different

add everything up and $15,500 is still a strong price, but im not the only one in line for these.....another well known maker wants $14,900 to do the same w/o all the extra's Rick includes and it would be a Mk4, not a L2a3......there are a few differences plus i dont like the crinkle coat most mk4's have

mine will be parkerized or similar

Wow, that's more than I had thought? I don't really follow them, but I may consider whipping another one up on a tube I have coming in since they are that high. I guess I'm sorta glad I bought the L34 back in the day as well, since I've only seen one of those for sale in the last 5 years.

I didn't care much for the crinkle coat at first either but it does grow on you. No fingerprints, no oiling, no maintenance. I just clean the internals and done, it's really kind of nice and quick vs. a teardown on other guns that can consume a lot of time. Course I guess the Duracoat is pretty easy too!

the gun maker has a line of people willing to pay $15,500.....enough that he is raising his prices by $3k for his next run........he makes a premium product and of course its a premium price

ruben had one that sold this year...i cant find out how much...Arch Stanton sold one for $13k this year and said it sold quickly.....so i do not think $15,500 is crazy...its not cheap, but you have to look at the whole pkg....where else you going to get 4 NOS mags, a fancy wood presentation box and a NOS bayonet.......maybe these things arent needed, but its how the maker wants his guns to be purchased....your getting maybe $1,000 worth just in his extra items vs someone elses.....

if i held out im sure another would show for $13,000-$14,000 but 90% chance it would be Crinkle....which i REALLY dont like....maybe id warm up to it...maybe not...rather pay more for what i want.........20 years from now paying a bit more will = nothing

David,

no the L34 is in my safe along with a MK4 stenling. The L34 is a two stamp premay I've had since 04. Got that first before MK4 since I was told it was rare....and indeed they are scarce and I am glad I got it when I did. I was fortunate to have good guidance and learned a lot from a long time dealer early on as I got into MG's.

Sterling mags are easy to find, the bayonets....depending on which one are difficult to find and not cheap. I forget, but I think I paid 200+ and spent some time searching? The bayonet is useless, but I enjoy the hunt and having the accessories as well.

Indeed if you don't like crinkle and held out, you might be dead before you found one without since Rick is the only one that does them that way AFAIK? The only other way you'd get it is to strip one and duracoat it, which is not fast or free so yeah, get what you want as long as your getting a build.

or have another Sterling maker make me a new one w/ the finish of my choice....that opportunity was also on the table w/ a new tube...........Rick said the bayonet was significantly more then $200....i can find them used, but not new.....not that its a big deal......i bought a bayonet for my uzi, just because it was there...$50--why not....add it to the pile of parts....

i bought a Sterling kit from Old Sarge and also 10 spare mags....i was told most look brand new and i supposedly got hand select.........ill have everything i need except for the gun(ha)

i figure get the parts kits and mags while they are plentiful....odds are in a year they will all cost more and possibly be harder to find....

kit should show up Monday....hoping for some older style mags...i was told they have the saw cut edges

Why are the bayonets expensive? The bayonet for the L2A3 is a run of the mill No. 5 bayonet. The Sterling marked bayonets are commercial export bayonets and are of a lower quality than the No.5 so tend to be much cheaper. Then there's the Indian made bayonets that vary in quality. What NOS bayonet will you receive?

That one looks like a British No. 5 bayonet and FTR'd at Some point. When new these bayonets had a blade in the white and when FTR'd the whole bayonet was parked. They were placed in to store after FTR in new packaging and are probably as close to NOS as you will find.
