M6 Observations/Questions

Recommended Posts

M6 just came in today, so i went to shoot it

the selector switch has no clicks???...you can just put it near F and your Full auto....i would think this is a design flaw? if your a soldier in Peru and you have it on safe you could just brush against it and it goes to full

pistol grip...after 30 rounds i felt a bite in the knuckle of my thumb...i started to grip the gun differently, but after 250 rounds it actually wore through the skin...i found it funny/odd....its not a great molded grip like a thompson, but you'd think they would do something a bit better

the wood appears to be original finish..it has wear on the front pistol grip and the butt stock is full of dents/scratches....but my dealer pointed out how the rear metal butt plate was 1/8 too big....so he thinks its been heavily sanded down and at one time the wood may have been bigger than the metal....just curious if this is true? i read somewhere that the wood was made by a guy in his garage out of whatever wood he had lying around...if this is the case its possible every piece of wood fits differently...looking for observations on any of your M6's???

i felt the sights are about the best ive seen on a subgun. I also thought the magazine going in and out were also the best..i like the simple and large mag lever...its smart

trigger pull was hard...i found i could easily shoot doubles and triples....i also found anything over a 3 round burst and your over the head of the target...

on single i found it was dead on....its an interesting gun with some positives and some negatives...the bluing part of my gun was much better than i expected...almost flawless...just some discoloration from age...what you'd expect....the stock was worse than expected with a couple of nice recent scratches....this is what you get when you dont get 20 pictures....i only got 2....i doubt i accept a dealer offering 2 and thats it again....but for a $6k gun it is what it is.....

In my opinion, the M6 has one of the most elegant and simple select fire components ever designed. There are only two parts: trigger and sear. The semi function is purely semi auto. The auto function is two stage, semi and full. Pull the trigger part way back for semi and all the way back for full. It could be no more simple.

I have reactivated half a dozen or more of these guns for customers over the years and just finished up two more. I enjoy them. If you decide what pares you need, better get them now as spares a getting exceedingly scarce, especially barrels. One of the guns I just finished up had a repro barrel that was about 8o% complete, and the eccentric chamber breech was not done along with some other required work. However, the barrel was an excellent replacement once finished up. Grip and sight ring ODs were correct and excellent rifling. I can't find out who made it as it was. Made some years back. Extractors a being reproduced currently.

i am in the market for a full parts gun, but will take whatever i can....i look 2x a week for parts kits

seems like 1-2x a year one will show up from looking back in time

i will grab an extractor as ive been contacted already by a forum member making them....i will have to take my bolt out to verify which style i have....

Yes, he was making some for me and discovered that his pattern was different than the pattern from the bolts I have. The first extractors were made of a softer alloy and did not hold up very long so he is making another run with a better alloy that will take a temper. I haven't received any yet, but there's no hurry.

bolt pics...do i have old or new style extractor?

should the back screw come off easy? i used a 1911 wrench in the slot while holding down the metal thing below it...turned easy for a bit, then hard, then easy, then real hard at the end...may have not been removed in 30+ years..who knows....they used grease in the tube...not horribly thick, but more than normal oil that i use....

also i got some good news---the bolt has a matching # to the receiver....
