MG08
Same answer. The 1917 tripod requires the boxes to have the angle on the bottom edge of the box for proper clearance to allow the box to be installed.

MG08
hard to tell from the pic - Colt Vickers box, or for the 1918 tripod....
BRMCII
Top box is for the early 1918 Standard Equipment Company tripod, one of two makers, for the 1917 BMG WCs and later 1917a1 tripod for the 1917a1 BMG WCs.Bottom box is for the 1917 BMG WCs. It is not for the Colt 1904 Maxim or the 1915/Colt Vickers both of which are much longer due to the wider pitch to the Maxim style belts. The beveled front bottom edge of the top box was done to fit the 1918 Model tripod issued for a short while with the 1917 BMG WCs, but removed from service and scrapped due to being too complex. The far better 1917a1 tripod was evolved from the earlier similar 1917 tripod first issued with the 1917s.The bevel was continued with the boxes for the 1917a1 tripod used with the 1917a1 BMGs.Ironically the bevel does not interfere due to the way belts fit into the boxes and don't fill into the two bottom corners as the belt is folded into the box.FWIW
