Grease Gunner
Fellow Forum members,I will describe what My WW2 M1a1 is Doing. When I release the trigger, it usually will go to slide lock.Sometimes I get 1-2 extra rounds.Yesterday I got 4 or 5 after releasing the triggerAmmo was Factory 230 Grain Ball, Remington, federal, Speer None of my other TSMGs do that Any thoughts would be appreciated Thanks Haris357
TSMG28
Usually this is due to the bolt not traveling back far enough to catch the sear. Weak ammo is one cause. Lack of lubrication is another. Look for anything that is creating drag in the bolt movement. I had a similar problem recently with an MP40 using Blazer Brass 9mm. Switched to Winchester NATO and problem disappeared. YMMV
Petroleum 1
The barrel, sear and bolt all look good??
95mustang
It can be as simple as a weak sear spring .
Grease Gunner
used a few differnt factory offerings so its not the ammoI will take it apart tomorrowIts got lubrication
Speeddemon02
I agree about the sear spring, but also make sure the sear isnt about worn out
67ray
The barrel, sear and bolt all look good?? Why would the barrel have a hand in this issue?
full auto 45
Also, make sure it is clean. If it's gummy it could be sticking. Had my M1 do that when I first got it. Took the lower and put it in a ultrasonic cleaner and was surprised at all the crap that came out of it, even though it looked fairly clean. taeelec
Had a similar problem with a Sten recently. The main spring was the culprit. Noticed it was stiffer/ longer than some spares I had. Replaced spring. Problem solved. Todd in Oregon
Petroleum 1
The barrel, sear and bolt all look good?? Why would the barrel have a hand in this issue?Badly worn barrel if the round is not sealing it will reduce some of the blow back.Kind of a long shot but worth a look. emmagee1917
My Numrich M1A1 started doing this . Replaced all the small parts and springs one by one . No good . Replaced the entire lower with a friends lower off a rebuilt WW2 . Worked fine . Ordered a GI lower , installed it , never another problem . Then the Numrich M1928 started the same thing , replaced the lower , no more problems . Sold both lowers to gents here who wanted them to upgrade the looks of their semis , recovering most of my costs . Win-win-win all the way around .Chris
Deavis
I had the same issue. My bolt catch/notches had become rounded . New M1/M1A1 bolts are not fun to buy.
mnshooter
One of the repro cast parts in my WH M1 was the sear. Very soft. It's a fire hydrant or something now.

I have a whole bunch of parts arriving from an auction so I will be able to fix it.I guess i can swap bolts, etc from another m1a1 that i have

Grease Gunner
Problem solved, gun now runs like a "sewing machine" Are sewing machines a standard(lol)? Got a new savage sear and spring and the new spring had lots more tension than the old one I did try stretching the spring first but that didnt help. Thanks to all for all your help. Ran a timer on the gun and it shoots 10 to the second. 600 RPM with Tula Steel Case ammoRan 100%
