MADSEN M-53 SMG magazines

Today I was doing some "homework" for the people in the receiving warehouse.
They ran across these nice condition, well made, curved 9MM SMG magazines.
Since they were unmarked, and the packages had no markings, they asked me to figure out what gun they are for.
Turns out they were for a MADSEN Model 53 9MM SMG.
I am well aware of the Model 50, and APEX has parts for them and they were used in the 1960's "Star Trek" series.
Apparently MADSEN came up with an improved version, the Model M-53.
I had never heard of it before, one of the better parts of my job is the chance to learn!

Will the M53 magazines fit the M50?

Sadly, no. But the M50 magazines work in a the M53. The M53 magazines are double-feed and will not work in the M50, which is a single-feed gun.

Similar to the situation with STEn magazines which work in a Sterling. But Sterling magazines don't work in a STEn for the same reason above.

Thank you for that info!

Comparing the M50 mag beside a M53 mag I suspected that the M53 would not be backwards compatible.

Is the M53 magazine useful in any other SMG?

Does anyone know what parts are unique in the M53 and won't fit the M50?

The magazine catch looks different.
