Model 1921 For Sale

Simple answer, and obvious: the original finish can only be done once. Think "virginity". There is no replacement that is not a "refinish". The value of a refinish is in the eye of the beholder, but an original finish is a one time proposition, and once gone, can never be replaced. FWIW

Exactly my point! So if a Colt was sent back to the factory for repair or work done to it, it’s no different then the one listed.

Yes it is different in that in order to get the imperfections, pits and scratches out one has to buff it down to smooth metal. Then re blue it.

Look at the Thompson in the OP's GB listing.

Look at the patent dates.

Notice how some have almost been obliterated.from polishing.

Its not like painting a car.

I once looked at a factory original 1921 at a local dealer.

Said to be in "good shape" from a reputable high end dealer.

Advertised at less than 30K. Such a deal.

The gun was a total disaster.

Zip zero rifling left. Never seen anything like it.

Wood demolished.

Pits, scratches and almost no blueing left.

Just imagine if I had flown in to view it.

If given the choice between that turd or this gun I'd go for this re blued /restored gun everyday and twice on Sunday.

Better yet cough up the extra cash and go for the GB listing in Louisiana. That one looks sweet.

If 30K is all you can justify , which this will probably sell for ,its not bad if you want a "pretty" gun.

The originalists will scorn.

Tough.

My advice...wait for the right gun. It will speak to you. It may take years. Such is our hobby.

However if this is the right gun for you....go for it.

I had a girlfriend once that claimed to be 99% virgin.

She definitely wasn't new in box.

Should I have trusted her more ?
