A-O 1999 Thompson M1 factory front sight mounting method

Hi All

I just picked up this A-O Thompson M1 manufactured in 1999 and I am trying to figure out how the front sight is mounted/attached. As you can see from the attached pic, it is not pinned in place. I contacted A-O about it and sent them the same pic, as far as they knew, all front M1 sights are now and always have been pinned in place so no help there.

So was the front sight threaded at that time like the Cutts and lock-tited in place or is it not threaded and just a slip fit and lock-tited in place. It seems to me that the adhesion would be better using a threaded barrel vs a smooth barrel if that is the case.

Any WH has a pressed-on front sight or comp, including full auto versions. Sometimes they loosen up, sometimes not. It's one of the things that any owner will want to consider correcting. PK did mine as part of a through rebuild and refinish. Here's a pic of a WH M1 front sight that has yet to be properly pinned:
