Only WWII U.S. Military Female To Be a German POW

Recommended Posts

Lt. Reba Z. Whittle, Army Flight Evacuation Nurse, pictured at far left, awarded Purple Heart and Air Medal, flew 40 missions before her C-47 was shot down over Aachen in September, 1944. She received six weeks of training in October, 1943 including firing the TSMG. Germans eventually released Reba sending her to Switzerland by train in January, 1945.

Jim,

Norwegians way ahead of you since 2014.

The above pic is from NBC News article that naturally shows IDF women instead of Norwegians. The I.D. only shows up when click on photo.

Reba was forced to sign security agreement, yet she was never officially classified by DOD as a POW until September 2, 1983.

I understand that all information concerning escape, evasion from
capture, activities and equipment in connection therewith, and details
of imprisonment or release from internment, is SECRET and must not
be disclosed to anyone except the military officials specifically
designated. I further understand that disclosure to any other person
will make me liable to disciplinary action for failure to safeguard
MILITARY INFORMATION.
I realize that publicity concerning my experiences, by word of mouth
or otherwise, will endanger the lives of many persons and therefore it
is my duty to take all possible precautions to prevent it.
