They had Thompson's at the Alamo? Man those Mexicans were tougher than I thought! No wonder they're so damn expensive, Thompsons not people from Mexico.... I wonder how much Davey C's thompson is worth these day???? Hmmmmm?????

A grandfather?? I thought you were older than that... My gdad was in WWI.. Funny thing was though when the war was over he just packed up and went home... When he died my uncle tried to get benifits for burial and as far as the Navy was concerned he was still AWOL... Had to actually go thru congress to get his name cleared and benifits restored... Even gave my uncle his WWI campaign ribbon and medal which I now have... My father was in WWII and was aircraft mechanic on a carrier... Which one I don't know, as we never discussed his time in the service... Which is kinda sad as he is gone now and it's to late...

Now about Davey Crockett's Thompson you want how much!!!

BigDaddy: Strange how some guys would just not talk about being in war. I've known guys my age (50-ish) whose Dad's were in the service, having served in WWII, and would not talk about being in battle, or much of anything. We bless and thank 'em all.

My grandfather was in the 85th infantry in Italy. Went against Hitlers best units. Saw some of the bloodiest battles in the European theater. Was there when the 10th mountain went into its glory. Bob Dole took it right where he was. He remembers a group of guys charging down a hill to be hit my machinegun fire. Gave me his book on the 85th and what they did in the war. Little book the general gave out before they went home for good. But he won't talk about it anymore. He did perk up when I told him I had a WWII Thompson that saw action. He did tell me it was a fun gun to have but just rwally wasn't what you wanted for long distance. Loved the M1 Garand. Had many confirmed hits with it. Didn't know how many Germans he killed with it, but didn't keep count either.

In most cases the guys that saw or were in the heat of the action won't discuss it.

I had a grandfather in W.W.I, and an uncle in W.W.II.

In talking with a few that did tours in Nam, (one a sniper, the other supply officer) the supply officer had far more stories to tell. The friend that was a sniper would not say a word. It's not fun reliving hell!

Although they both agreed that the Thompson was great for jungle fighting.
