Little Hard Rubber Discs that go on the Back End of the Buffer Pilot

Recommended Posts

While poking around in the internals of my 1921AC, doing cleaning and whatnot, I noticed that this gun doesn't have the little hard rubber disc that goes on the back end of the buffer pilot.

I'm thinking I should have that that disc in place if I'm going to fire the gun much.

Any idea where those are to be had? Something authentic would be nicer than something I would make or use from some other gun or gun parts.

You might try PK,he is the only one that might have them.... but why?

-you are aware that the 21 buffer discs are inside the two piece pilot system, right? Not like 28 where they are external.

IF you are shooting your 21 with the original internals, swap it for a PK kit that uses 28 buffers - modern technology really helps. I do not think I will ever shoot a Colt era gun with the correct internals other than to prove they work.

poihthis,

If you have an original Colt's Model of 1921AC with an original actuator and buffer pilot without the commonly found small red disks in the buffer tube, you should not be firing your Colt's. Of course, it is your gun and you can fire it at will. That being said, original Colt actuators are fragile and you can easily shear off one or both cocking ears. 1921 original actuator replacements are hard to find and very expensive when found. In addition, without the proper red disks in the original Colt's buffer tube, firing your Colt's will place a lot of strain on the back of the receiver and could risk damaging the receiver.

The best method for firing a Model of 1921 Colt's is to use a cut-down GI 1928 actuator with a Diamond K hybrid 1921/28 buffer pilot. I cover this subject in-depth in my book, An Amateur's Guide for the Colt's Thompson Submachine Gun. See Chapter 18 and page 176. If you are unfamiliar with what I am talking about, you really need to take the time to learn the safest way to fire your Colt's.

Yes. Tuck that queen in a safe where she belongs until you can replace the actuator and buffer/spring assembly with one of PK's. Then safely stow the originals. R

Whoa, Giant Panda-

You said-

I only know to put them back where i found them, at the extreme rear of the pilot against the receiver.

My PK’d WH has them at the rear but so does my unfired 21....I think, as I do not take it apart.

Got a picture of where else the disc can be placed.
