emmagee1917
Thanks , Jim.I was very happy to have been able to find a buttplate and a correct adaptor to be able to bring her back .The later adaptors had an "S" on the side , but Bruce Canfield told me that mine had the early non-"S" marked adaptor on it when made .Some things to note that are not usually covered in these :The stampings in front of the trigger .The hole in the rear of the adaptor so it will fit a Winchester as a replacement part .How the shells lay in front of the lifter .How these adaptor's fit onto the handguard shield . One might also note the very , very rare trench gun web sling . It is based on the M1 Garand web sling , but , while the BAR web sling is 24 inches longer , this one is only 12 inches longer . Folded , this gives a six inch longer reach due to the longer distance between the swivels of the trenchguns over the M1 . I know it is rare , I've only seen six of them. And I have them all .( I also had them made )Chris
jim c 351
Chris,My gun has the same stampings on the trigger guard. Have no idea what they mean.I noticed the hole at the rear of the bayonet attachment and thought it was odd. Didn't realize they were used on Winchesters.I never heard of special slings for shotguns. If its mentioned in Canfields book I missed it My gun is much improved since I posted the pics.I glued a piece on the broken toe and fitted a repro buttplate similar to yoursI steel wooled the wood , recut the checkering, and applied an oil finish.I sand blasted the mag tube and applied 6 coated of "OXPHA blue'.Its a mismatch, barrel and stock don't match the receiver, but it looks nice. But all in all, you have a much nicer Stevens.Jim C
emmagee1917
Hi Jim .The shields were not placed on Winchesters , per se , but they knew that sometime down the line field repairs and rebuilds would come up . The hole was to allow it to be used on both makers guns at that time .The slings were made by a modern maker of the web slings made to my spec of 1/2 length between a M1 and a BAR / M15 sling . They were not a GI item . Re-reading my attempt at humor , I can see where the punch line was not clear on that . Sorry about that .Chris Edited August 13, 2015 by emmagee1917
