Assault Weapons Ban And Sunset

Recommended Posts

Nick, you may not like this topic here, so move if you need to.

To All,

What individual would you consider "writing in" as President in 2004, that you really believe would allow the AW ban to sunset, would protect the U.S citizens from illegal immigration (and actually enforce existing immigration laws), protect our borders, and fight for the Bills of Rights (all 10, not just a select few)?

I have been a supporter of Bush, but I am not real sure he is the guy for 2004. Recently, I have been more than disappointed.

If the word gets out that the Second Amendment crowd may write in a candidate, Bush may wake up. I can't vote Demo, but I sure can write someone in and not feel bad about it.

Who is that person that you would write in?

Thanks,

Mario Scarpino

I believe that GW will be hard to stop. I believe that an effort to elect someone else to serve gun-owners is an exercise in futility and we need to work on what we have.

I'm not sure if he'll actually renege on his promises, but it sounds good to the antis now.....he may just be trying to pick up some votes. OR he may truly believe (contrary to what he said during his campaign) thay AW's are now BAD and the ban needs to continue.

Here's whay I plan to do (because I really think that nobody will be able to touch him)..........

Start writing e-mails and letters to Dubya AND to your Senators and Representatives.(letters work the best....a "hard copy" in hand is way better than an e-mail, but an e-mail is better than not writing at all.

Don't forget to add any other points of interest or comments on other subjects.....try not to make the letter look like a "one-issue" deal.

If our elected officials see enough of these asking to allow the ban to sunset then that will be what happens. Grass roots politics, pure and simple. They WILL take NOTICE!! That's how it's supposed to work anyway.

Write once every couple weeks and urge ALL your friends, relatives, spouses, etc .

Remember, no matter what they think, YOU own your politicians!! Make your voice heard!!

Arthur, I'm a member of a special interest group (The N.R.A.) and a private citizen who votes and supports (monetarily or otherwise) any candidate who will truly respect and protect the entire Constitution (including the Bill of Rights) of the United States of America. So, I would say that makes me, and anyone else like me, both a renter and an owner (albeit collectively) of politicians. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif

WELL SAID, Walter!

If we don't vote, don't stay informed, and don't communicate with our elected representatives, we give the benefits of living in the free-est nation on earth away and then the special interests own them, as Arthur has said. I for one don't intend on abdicating my rights as a citizen to anyone without a fight. Granted, it has to be done by the book, being politically informed, active and aware, and showing others what they miss out on by not doing the same thing.

I remember a bumper sticker saying, "Don't blame ME, I didn't vote for him!"

The LAST thing I want to be is the person who has to admit to himself, "It's my fault, I didn't vote AGAINST him!"

I just read the main statement (rant) on that celticsurf/freeworld page.

And that guy is a genuine wacko. If anyone believes what that person says, they need to read some other peoples' opinions on other web sites. For instance, they should try RealClearPolitics.com or HughHewitt.com just to name a couple that come to mind.

And if you want to get a real good source of info on the fight for our Second Amendment rights, go to NealKnox.com You can get a monthly newsletter from him that tells you, in short, the situation in Washington and around the country.

Charlie, I didn't read anything from Freeworld that I didn't believe. Perhaps you should read on that site, "American Gestapo". All that is written is pretty much fact. What was it that you disagreed with?

All that I would add is that everywhere Howard Dean goes, Al Gore is in the background (figuratively and literally)! Howard Dean is Al Gore's boy! If you want to keep your guns and your gun rights, guaranteed under the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, do everything in your power to see to it that Howard Dean is defeated! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif

Thanks to all of you who have viewed my post and those who have posted a response. So far no one has submitted a name of anyone they would recommend as a write-in candidate. This is extremely upsetting! It appears we all know we have "politicians" running this country and no where can a true "STATESMAN" be found. You never hear a single "politician" say they are going to protect our rights and freedoms as written in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. All they can talk about are all the handouts they will get you if you vote for them!

I still say the Second Amendment crowd needs to wake some people up (politicians) or they (politicians) pay the consequences. Maybe its up to us class 3 fans to fuel the fire and get the pro Second Amendment crowd energized.

Nick, thanks for leaving my post here where I think it got a lot more action.

I went back to that site and read "American Gestapo". And I agree with you. We should be outraged by a story like that one about that young women deported back to Germany. I'm not really surprised that many people are being wrongly, unjustly turned away. Even in the wake of the tragedy of the Twin Towers destruction and murder of over 3,000 people, you would think our government could do a better job of training people to screen out true 'undesirables'. I'm guessing, that the people who do the screening and checking people coming into this country, are thinking that if they let someone in, who turns out to be a real terrorist, who causes another horrible event, that they, the screeners will get the blame and shame of not doing their job.

Maybe there's more to that story than what was reported. I don't know. Maybe the families wrote their congressmen and senators and others and got an apology, later, and their people were allowed in. Who knows? You just can't take the word of one source of news for any one story, and be certain that you're getting all the facts. I'm not saying I have all the facts about everything that's going on in the world. That's why I read at least a few different sources, if I can. I'm sure you do, too.

What I didn't agree with, to put it mildly, was the way the writer of the opinion on the first page I read, said that "Uncle Sam used to be everyone's favourite uncle. But not anymore. In recent times he has shown his true colours as a vicious and ruthless killer of men, women, and children and arch-proponent of shameless imperialism. Under smirking president-by-default and commander-in-chief George W. Bush, America has lost its way and gone Nazi. And become a serious threat to its own people and to our entire planet."

This person is one of those people who see's The United States as the real villain of the world. According to him, it's the U.S. government and their "Talk Radio" cronies leading their vast Right Wing Conspiracy that is the cause of all the evil and injustice in the world. Right. If the Americans had just left Saddam in power and let the UN continue to do the wonderful job the Inspectors were doing, all those thousands of innocent civilians would still be alive and well... unless they happened to be the people Saddam wanted dead because they were a threat to him. Then they joined the other hundreds of thousands of men, women and children given a free bus ride out to the desert, wait their turn to get their free bullet(s) and free place next to the other corpses in the nice big ditch.

If they're lucky. Or, if not, they got to visit Rape Room or Torture World. Maybe they'd even live to tell about the experience. Apparently, some did.

Look. I know we, as a nation, haven't done everything right. I hate the fact that the people pushing atheism, liberalism, relativism, pornography, drugs, abortion, and a few other things I disagree with in our country are doing it. I guess that's one of the problems a free society. But I'd still rather do what I can in my little area of influence here in the U.S., than be somewhere else. That's probably something like I'd tell this person.

I'm not always the most eloquent writer when it comes to this sort of thing. Anyway, what I quoted above is one of the things with which I disagree.

What about all you other guys reading this Board? Who or where do you go to get news and opinions about what's going on in the world?

Try going to someone like Hughhewitt.com and going to the archives section or clicking on one of the suggested blogs and reading their views of the news. Realclearpolitics.com is another good one. IMHO

Phil, that was very well written! Now what we need is to get the fairer sex, 50% of the population, on our side! I could see maybe a Tom Selleck or Jesse Ventura for President, with Ann Coulter as VP. After all, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."-The Bard (Shakespeare). Would you mess with this Walther P-38 packing babe? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif

Since this a Tommy gun forum, I thought you guys would appreciate this. It was offered as an enticement to join a site. I have nothing to say about the site (not having visited it). Ok guys, I realize that I'll probably receive a lot of flak for this and I may be pouring gasoline on the fire - but I still want to give you a foreigner's (or alien, as your Immigration services prefer to regard me) view on some issues of American politics (I'm Norwegian).

I am married to an American woman, I teach UK/US culture, language and history at high school level. I read the on-line editions of the Washington Post, USA Today and the New York Times every day - and I am a gun collector. In general, I pay a lot af attention to what is going on over there, in terms of guns and in terms of politics and general society.

What strikes me as odd is that the political debate in this forum centers around guns. Maybe not that odd, after all this is a forum for gun owners, but I am left with the impression that you guys will let the gun issue; be it concealed carry, assault guns, silencers or general registration of the guns, be THE ruling factor when you're casting your vote in the upcoming elections. That worries me.

It may not come as a surprise that your present president is not too popular over here. He appears illiterate and not very understanding of other countries' politics and sociology; to us he represents a cowboy culture that we thought was extinct, at least when it comes to politics.

I live in a country that was occupied by the Germans from April 9th 1940 until May 8th 1945. The Gestapo fired hundreds of rounds at my father (obviously unsuccessfully), my grandfather went to concentration camp, his brother was tortured to death and my uncle was heavily tortured. I, and the Norwegian population, have a LOT to thank the United States of America for; you're the main reason why we are still speaking Norwegian in this country and not German.

But the European goodwill and gratiude are fading, much thanks to your current president.

This may not concern you at all, after all he's your president and not ours; but I believe you must have noticed the lack of European support for your recent endeavors in Iraq. Don't get me wrong, I think it was a good thing overthrowing Mr. Hussein - but I think that the reasons for doing so were somewhat obscure.

In a true democratic way I try to use this forum to vent my opinions, please look up from your gun sights and see what's going on in the real world - the real world is not too concerned with our gun ownership rights.

Like it or not, the USA is the only superpower left - therefore you have to expect to be in the world's focus.

Respectfully,

Balder

Yeppers I am a one issue voter because I feel that once the second amendment is destroyed there is not much hope keeping the rest. I'm tired of being told to vote the lesser of two evils but it is a political reality now and has been for a long time. Give me two pro gun candidates and I will check out the issues.... Until then if they want my guns, then they don't want my vote.

Lets take a look where Gun Control has been VERY successful. All of the following is being quoted from a fantastic new book titled, "Enemies Foreign And Domestic", by Matthew Bracken.

DURING THE 20TH CENTURY, OVER 100 MILLION CIVILIANS WERE KILLED BY THEIR OWN GOVERNMENTS, MORE THAN IN ALL 20TH CENTURY WARS COMBINED. IN EACH CASE, EXTERMINATION FOLLOWED GUN CONTROL.

1911: Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians in Turkey, unable to defend themselves, were exterminated.

1929: The Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, 40-60 million "class enemies", unable to defend themselves, were exterminated.

1935: China established gun control. From 1948-1952, 20 million Chinese "class enemies", unable to defend themselves, were exterminated.

1938: Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews, Catholics, Gypsies and others, unable to defend themselves, were exterminated in Nazi controlled Europe.

1956: Cambodia established gun control. From 1975-1977, one million "class ememies", unable to defend themselves were exterminated.

1966-1976: China still had gun control. Millions of more "class enemies", still unable to defend themselves, were exterminated in Mao's "Cultural Revolution".

1990s: Rwanda established gun control. In 100 days in 1994, over 800,000 Tutsis, unable to defend themselves, were exterminated by machete-wielding Hutus backed by armed government militias.

NEVER AGAIN!

WE WILL NEVER AGAIN BE LED LIKE LAMBS TO THE SLAUGHTER BECAUSE IN A MOMENT OF NAIVE OPTIMISM WE ALLOWED OURSELVES TO BE DISARMED!
