pdzani
Hi, Im Paul and wanted to introduce myself. My favorite guns have always been revolvers and 1911s. I have a few semi-auto rifles, but always loved the look of the Thompson. Shortly I will be picking up my first, 1927A1 T1-14 new from a local gun shop. When I did some of my on line research I understood quickly that these guns are unique and may require special attention and care periodically. Many years ago I rode old school pan and shovel head Motorcycles that required the same. Lots of maintenance and tweaking to keep them running smooth but riding one was the reward. I joined your forum because I know very little about the care and feeding of the Thompson and I am eager to learn, thought this is a good place to start with lots of knowledge and experience floating around here. I am going to first start searching for initial break in advice and things to watch for and possibly avoid any big mistakes right off the bat. Look forward to talking with you. Thanks from the newest rookie.

vanvock
Welcome aboard. '57 Pan rider here. I would advise you to shoot it as soon as possible with a variety of ammo & magazines, observing closely for any problems. If anything seems wrong contact Kahr asap & get the ball rolling for them to make corrections. It could take more than one trip back to get it right. pdzani
Thanks for the welcome and advice, I need all I can get. My pan was a 55, had some good times on that bike, several shovels and I was lucky my wife never complained when we broke down, just got the tools and spare parts out of the bags and went to work. I hope the Thompson does the same.
vanvock
Bought mine as a basket case & spent a year building it in my bedroom. Yea, lots of good times & I think the Tommy guns are a lot like them. Just got to learn where to tickle her.
Hossbreed45
I'm not a scooter rider but I am a Thompson owner. Mine has had some feeding issues but they have all been worked out over time and one trip back to Kahr for bolt replacement. Awaiting arrival of my SBR Form 1 then it's off to Deerslayer for SMG barrel installation and tweeking. Good luck with yours! P.S. If you send yours back to Kahr, be sure to send it in the hard case! I didn't and it came back with a bent rear sight ear and a "squashed" bolt handle. After numerous attempts to get an email response from Kahr (never came), I finally sent them a snail-mail letter and they sent me the replacement parts which I installed myself. Devious6
Welcome to the forum! I'm an M1SB owner who, fortunately, lives only an hour from the Tommygun Warehouse. My Thompson had an out-of-the-box sear issue that required a drive back to the shop where their armorer replaced the sear and then did some other tweaks - runs like a champ. I was also the winner of a raffle where I got one of the new Auto Ordnance/Thompson AR pistols - the Generation 2 of Thompsons. Revelations19:11
Hi everyone. I am also new to this forum. I too have just recently bought a used auto ordnance 1927-A1 Thompson. The dealer at the gun shop forewarned me of an issue with this gun. He said that it will mis-fire every 3rd round or so. I just took it out last weekend and as expected it did just that. I pulled the trigger and let off a good 3 or 4 rounds and the next would just click, click, click. I would manually eject and it would go again. It almost looks as if it doesn't sometimes fully cock itself automatically after a fired round. Sometimes the misfired round that comes out looks as if the firing pin isn't hitting hard enough. The gun dealer put a new firing pin in before i purchased it. I read a few trouble shooting tips on these Thompson's and it's seems like it's a common problem. It shoots very accurately and when the few shots that go off as should, it functions very smoothly. Im very excited to finally add this gun to my family of firearms. Any suggestions?? Please respond. Oldtrooper
Replacement firing pins on these guns generally need some hand fitting.

pdzani
Update on my 1927 T1-14, picked it up from the gun store, cleaned and lubed it up and went to the range. Fired 200 rounds Winchester white box 230 gr FMJ. I had about 30% failure to feed, most of the time I would have to pull the cocking handle back about an inch watch the round drop in the chamber and release the handle. Since it is under warranty I had the shop I purchased the gun from send it back to the factory and they were happy to do so. Got it back 4 weeks later and the paperwork stated the polished the ejector. I have since put 400 rounds through the gun with no problems and I love shooting it. I could not be happier with it. When I looked at the end of the ejector it did l did see what appeared to be polishing marks at the very end of the ejector that grabs the brass casing so thats the latest from my experience. Hossbreed45
Sorry, extractor. My TM1 had the same issue. I polished it myself and also polished the feed ramp. All good now!

pdzani
Thanks, It is my new addiction I think. I have shot most of my life but the fun factor on this gun is by far my favorite. It’s not self defense gun, I have plenty of those so if it’s not 100% reliable I’m not going to fall on my sword. I am just trying to get it tuned up enough to be reasonably reliable at the range. It’s not an original, I can’t afford one, buts this replica is still great to shoot and own.
