1928 Repair/Fix-it Kit

New to the forum and new to the Thompson. I bought a Kahr semi 1927 a while back, and recently SBR it. Got the bug and bought

a 1928-A1, which is not in my hands yet - pending tax stamp. Been collecting C&Rs for years and often keep a few spare parts for

certain types. Is there a list of spare parts one should keep on hand for 1928?

 

BTW I have read many articles/blogs put out by the experts on this forum, which were very helpful and informative, Thanks!!

I will have some questions latter on this particular 1928-A1 as the receiver markings don't seem to be standard WH markings, but

probably best to wait until I get it in hand to ask about that.

Welcome to the forum! Extra Springs of all types are always a good thing to have on hand along with buffer washers. I keep one of all the small parts for range trips, however have yet to need a repair in the field. Whatever you buy try to stick with Unissued USGI Parts when possible.

Welcome to the boards. First thing before determining parts is figuring out which 28 you have as you said its markings are different. If its not USGI Im sure everyone would say get in line to have PK do his work to it. After that then im sure which spare parts youll need will be answered.

Thanks for replies. This WH was one of the first made during 1st year production so hoping mostly GI parts. Receiver serial number is prefixed A.O.C.

I will post some pictures when I get it in hand. .I am jumping the gun wanting to get some spare parts, but figure there is some parts most keep on

hand for repairs. Retired from Army, did my post Army things, and pretty much fully retired now to my farm, so need something to keep me busy.(LOL).

If my past experience with tax stamps is any indicator it will be a while before I get this one.

Welcome to the board. I look forward to seeing pictures of your early West Hurley. The Westies had a few changes throughout their production including dropping the A.O.C. prefix. Mine is A.O.C. 248.

I'm like everyone else: I liked to purchase spare parts just for the satisfaction of tracking them down and acquiring them. I've found that they're almost never needed, and have sold my stash off to others, one part at a time. Maybe better just to buy what you need, when you need it.

One thing I would get is a bolt. If you happen to drop the one you have and mangle the face you will need one. Then get an actuator, send it to Pk, and have him mill it down to 21 specs and get his 21 kit. You will love shooting at 21 speed. He will do the milling when he gets enough to set up the process, about every 6 months. Ditto on the recoil springs. Get a few.
