Good Morning,

 

The names Don, I live in the UK (yes don't all start yawning).

 

I'm one of the fortunate ones over here to own a beretta 9mm, however due to the UK laws, owning anything more is considered a risk.

 

The Ban I've heard people talk about, concerning the US, has already been done here, though on a small scale.

 

The down side to the bans is the ever increasing lack of facilites where you can actually go shoot any type of weapon you choose.

 

I'm a huge fan of the Thompson, was in the process of buying one some years back, legally (and believe me that was a pain) when the UK government brought in the law.

 

Nowadays I still havent found a place where I can go shoot a thompson, I suppose is this day and age turning up anywhere with one of those in your hand would be a security risk, but by god I think we dam well need them.

 

I also wanted to say, thanks to all those members who have posted videos, at least I can see those Thompsons doing what they do best and seeing the enjoyment of the owners, secretly wishing I was actually shooting them.

Welcome to the forum. Perhaps one day you could vacation here in the states. There are numerous places where you could rent firearms from pistols to MG42's to shoot on the premises and I'm sure many of the members here would be happy to meet with you at one of the many events around the country year round for the experience.

 

I'm surprised you are allowed to keep a handgun in the UK. I was under the impression that all were confiscated. Tell us how the law works in that regard.

 

I also recommend you try to pick up one of the dewats that are available in your country for only a few hundred pounds. The same thing is worth thousands over here because they are a fairly light dewat compared to what we are allowed. They are worth having, IMHO. Over here, UK dewats are considered live machineguns.

Thanks for the warm reception, it's good to know that people understand the bloody frustrating laws we have over here, sometimes stupid in fact.

 

I aquired my beretta well before the law came into effect, as such and with zillions of legal issues, the gun has to remain at gunsmiths, under lock and key. If I ever feel I'd like to use it, I have to take ID, my firearms certificate etc in order for me to use it on a range (of sorts).

 

UK law no prevents anyone from having any firearms without a good enough reason to, you have to go through checks with the local police, which take a while to come back then you have strict instructions as to when, where and how you use the weapon. I know many people who have simply given up on having firearms because of these rules.

 

Thank you for letting me know about the shooting events in the US, I think I shall just have to find my passport and go visit them next year, I'll probably stay for quite sometime, judging by all the events so far this year.

I hope you will find this forum to your satisfaction. I am constantly amazed as to the wealth of information I find here. I am terribly sorry to hear about all the idiotic gun laws you all have over there. I could have sworn we defeated fascism 60 years ago. I looks like it went underground and re-surfaced in you government. Can you vote the vile scum out of office, or are you stuck with the socialist nazis? We have some over here though. They praise England's gun laws and try to use them as models for their own gun confiscation agendas. I do believe they will find American's attitudes about confiscation a whole lot different than in England, and they will find it a bit bloody, litteraly. Are the statistics I keep hearing about of violent crime shooting up 40% or more true?

the stats you gave are probably not that high, I live in the northwest of the UK, have done all my life, gun crime isn't as high, but then again most people outside the Uk assume London is be 'be-all-and-end-all' of the UK which is rubbish. That place does some gun crime, mind you it does have a lot of everything else associated with crime, street robbery, violence etc, yet in other parts of the UK the figures aren't such a big deal.

 

As for getting those people out of government, unfortunately all parties are against any relaxing of the laws following the incident at Dunblane many years ago, which was a terrible act, however why punish the rest.

 

But don't get me started on that one, I'll be here for hours, lol.

I will make sure that if I do visit the US I'll come to you, sounds excellent havin all that land right outside your back door.

 

Yep the name refers to the fact I smoke (and there becoming a rare breed) and I ride a motorcycle.

 

I doubt I'll get my Kawasaki ZX12r in my luggage or within the weight limit of my hand luggage:)) but I'll more than likely hire a bike.

 

Being in the UK having a bike is one of the easiest ways to get around without being stuck in traffic, especially going to work,

The incident at Dunblane you were referring to, is it the one where that peice of s**t walked into an elementary school and started to shoot innocent children then killed himself when he was done? Nothing makes me madder than people hurting children. It makes me just as mad when the anti-gunners use a tragic incident such as this and try to punish all gun owners. I guess in their mind if you own a gun you are a wack job like that pile of crap. Sorry for the rant.

I fully agree M1tommygun, this gave the UK government the green light to proceed at speed to bring in laws which prevent many people from enjoying themselves and their guns.

 

That B-----d who did that to those kids was a bloody freak, I fully agree anyone who does that to children in whatever form needs hanging from the nearest tree( unfortunately hanging was stopped years ago, something many brits wish could come back)

 

As with a lot of things with the UK, when something unusual and severe happens, the government drops on us normal folk like a ton of bricks and legislation thats absolutely bonkers.

 

Yes of course I could go out, buy a machine gun (probably Uzi) on the black market, but then would live in fear of a knock at the door from the local police or armed squad.

 

People assume that because you have an interest in guns it means your some sort of freak, out to do damage etc.

 

Many of these liberal folk also want smacking kids by parents banned, cars banned etc, because they obviously have a rubbish life and want to ruin everyones elses.

 

You guys make sure you fight that ban of yours as much as you can, individuality is the key, being able to do as you pease so long as no one gets hurt is what is all about.

Hi from Germany,

i heard of the change in UK gun laws. The german Dunblane was Erfurt in 2003, when some sort of freak shot about 20 people and himself. I fully agree on your thoughts about the governments intention to keep people away from arms. Sometimes it seems like some forces in government are WAITING for a piece of s**t like that to have a good reason to bring in "safer" gun laws.

If i remember right, the Erfurt guy was 19 years old, so now every individual between 18 and 25 have to bring a psychic report (which we call idiots test) to own a gun. Maybe next year some freak at the age of 72 is going to shoot people, what will they do then?
