Rock Island charges sales tax

Recommended Posts

I won a Handy Gun at the last auction and there's sales tax now added in to the total.

I don't now how long they have been doing it but it's the first time I've noticed it on my invoice

Just something else that needs to be considered when deciding what something is worth when you bid

IL is an origin-based sales tax state. They have to collect from everyone...

Not really, depends on where you live. The Rock Island website lists the states they collect sales tax for, and for example, Tennessee is not one of them.

Interesting - looks like a "MarketPlace facilitator" in IL uses destination-based sales tax rule

rather than the state's origin-based rule - didn't know that... Thanks for the correction.

I live in NH (which has no sales tax) and occasionally run into companies that try to charge me sales tax

when they shouldn't (e.g. company in a destination-based state selling me stuff in NH should not charge sales tax

where a company in an origin-based state still would).
