Project Gun on GB

This one is going to take some work but it may go for a bargain price. Most of the parts seem to be there but are probably in need of fitting. If someone has the time and talent they can bring it back to life

I may try on this. My wife has wanted a reising for years. Anyone have a guess what it would take to get this running? I just dont know a lot about them. I talked to the seller and he couldnt give me much info. It is from the estate of a type 07 ffl. The form 4 is from 1999.

With a Reising, it's not the stuff that you can see that's going to be the problem. Getting the barrel out and cleaning up the inside of the receiver is relatively simple if you have the machinery to do it. The real problems are related to missing or possibly missing parts.

  1. The myriad of springs, pins and plungers which may or may not be present in a partially disassembled gun. If you've ever done a detail strip on a Ruger Mk series auto pistol think of that only a lot worse.
  2. And this is the BIG one, all the small parts in the fire control group have to be hand fitted. Murphy's Law says those that have already been fitted to another gun would need to be built up and re-fitted so anything that's there may or may not work and that's not there may or may not be easily replaced. I wasn't joking when I called this one a project.

BTW this one is not mine and I do not know the seller, I only posted it because I knew someone on this board would have the ability and the patience to breathe life back into it. There are nicer Reisings out there but they don't cost $2.2K

If you use a smith Ill bet its close to $1500-2000 in parts, smith work and refinish

Once done you have a pitted blah gun

Unless your a gun smith I dont think its a good deal at all

Ive seen pretty nice ones sell $4900 over the past year

Was watching the auction. Lost interest after it hit $2500+.

If you shop around a shooter grade Reising can be had for $4500 - $5000 . At under 3 g's this would have been a maybe if you had talent and some parts.

Reality is you are buying a piece of paper that says "legal 1986 MG " ;-)

  • 3 weeks later...

as noted above its the challenge to re-build 2 things against me re-doing this classic

1) Form 4

2) Price - over 3K????

shame I have the extra parts to get her up and running again

I rebuilt a semi reising M-60 in worse condition, thank god, at that time spare parts were plentiful then
